Im looking at a 1993 Ford L-8000 single axle dump truck with central hydro. , 8.3L cummins and automatic trans, 39,000 GVW. Thier asking $8500. it was a state or municipal dump so it did have salt in the bed. Think the price is right or a little high. Also, how much do you think it will tow? I would like to use it to plow as well as use it for my excavating business.
The truck is good except for one thing its the automatic if the truck had a 8-9 or 13spd it would be worth buying. The automatic is very expensive to fix it also is harder on brakes and it reduces the power.
If the truck is in good general condition, the price is about right. The Cummins engine is a good motor and I assume it's an Allison transmission which are reliable as well. See if you can get the service records on it, if it's a municipal truck they are probably available.
I re-read the post are you sure its 39,000lb gvw does the truck have a drop axle ? The Allison maybe reliable but your going to be :crying when it does decide to take a dump. How is the rust if its been a plow truck the road salt eats up the Ford bodies along with the rest of the truck. The highways maintenace contractor has 2 L8000 single axle plows both 10 litre Cummins nice trucks the salt is ruining them. Got any pictures or links ?
