We have an old ford/NH 555E that we’re replacing the seat on and decided to go ahead and try to fix the seat swivel at its very sticky and jams very easily. We removed the seat but I don’t see a way to remove or disassemble the swivel assembly. There’s a carriage bolt head visible from the top but no nut visible on the underside. 90* from the carriage bolt on top is a carriage bolt head on the bottom but again, no nut up too. The green is the carriage bolt head (and where I assume there’s supposed to be a second one 180 from the first) and the red is where the carriage head bolts are underneath. The second photo is a (not very good) shot of the underside, it appears the base is a disk and the top is a square with 4 U’s that are turned on edge and (possibly?) keep thesquare centered on the disk as it turns. Does anyone here happen to have experience with these or know what direction to point us, Thanks.
Try looking up the parts online. They have a pretty good parts catalog.
remove the base post from the floor mount, turn upside and oil the area where the swivel ball roll,, the swivel rail area where ball rune probably rusted, worth a try GOOD LUCK love the old Fords
Part assembly doesn't show any nuts. The swivel base is shown as an assembly so it is most likely riveted together. You might be able to grind the heads off and use bolts if it has room.
Like NH575E.. You should be able to turn the top around to align the brad ends of the rivets, (assuming its called rivets). The square holes were big to insert the heads during assemble, round to brad. Drill out the brads ends to separate. Clean up whatever tracks and balls you find. If tracks can be cleaned but balls misshapen of lost, new balls usually can be obtained from a timken bearing dealer. After you think this over and before you start... Google: swivel mounting brackets for industrial equipment Should get pages of assemblies. Select one and it will detail in a box to right. Lots will be boat seat size but larger are there. (Also, if have not purchased a seat): Go to website of The Wise Company, in Memphis, TN. Can provide almost any seat. Excellent quality and reasonable priced. (My instructions on the dismantling of the swiverl is based on many years in the forklift business and running up on this situation a few time. Some times OK, some not.)
Thank you guys for the info, we’ve been extremely busy so we haven’t put much time into this but we decided for simplicity sake to build a bracket to adapt a boat swivel and put the new seat on the boat swivel.
Good solution. And keep the virus on the coast as we have our own supply here in Tupelo, LOL
We’ll see what we can do to keep it here, but rumor has it that Rona doesn’t care for the heat and humidity at the beach so she may move up north until winter.
