…..let low levels of diesel fuel sit in your machine for long periods of time without treating it or using it. I recently bought a New Holland backhoe thats going to be a farm machine. We ran it for a few hours before we started changing fluids and filters to start our maintenance schedule. The machine had a lope at idle that was of concern, but we figured we could figure it out. Well, we figured it out. We pulled the fuel filter and you see what we saw. Packed full of varnish. After looking, the bottom of the tank had probably a 1/4” of the same sludge. So, we took the tank off and power washed the crap out of it, literally. After letting the tank drain and dry overnight, we rinsed it with 3-4 gallons of lacquer thinner several times. Reinstalled the tank and put in a couple of gallons of fresh diesel and an overdose of Seafoam. We got the hoe fired up and running this morning. It ran rough as a cob for a while, but after about an hr of idling, it smoothed out an runs like a top. It‘ll idle like a champ and runs good all through the operating rpm range. We’ve emptied the fuel filter twice this morning and its progressively got cleaner each time. So, hopefully we dodged a bullet with injector or injector pump problems. So, let this be a friendly reminder to fill the machine up before letting it sit idle for long periods of time!

Perhaps. It was a state owned machine.
