Front Idler PC220-2

John C. ยท 2019-11-12 21:43

Went to look at a PC220-2 today. The complaint was the right side track was off and the track adjust didn't work. We broke the track and found the front idler was broken through the center and is scrap. So now we are looking for an idler. My best source says only one that he can find is in Spain. I'm wondering is something else will work. I check the parts department at the local Komatsu dealer and they say the Dash 3 and Dash 5 Komatsu excavator idlers are completely different. Does anyone here have any input of insights on this? Thanks in advance!

Hope to useful. Good luck to you, Sir.

...and dimensions of PC220-3 idle may be same.

These are dimensions of PC220-5 idle. All of them (PC220-2_PC220-3 and PC220-5's idles) is almost same size.

Thank you Mr. LACHAU! The diagrams are perfect. The wheel is the same for all those models. What I need to do next is measure the dimensions of the track frame and the mounting holes for the idler to the rod. Maybe the ears that mount the wheel inside the track frame are different. I appreciate your generosity is looking up that information and posting it. Thank you

Komatsu had a agreement with Berco back in the day so i'm thinking Berco parts may fit. Then if that is the case ITR could also have parts

I talked to the dealer again today after they did some research. Their used parts people have apparently been selling Dash 6 recoil and idler assemblies to fix this issue on some models of machines. There are some critical dimensions I have to check before we go down that road. First is the dimension of the grease fitting end socket. The size of the pocket inside the track frame where the ears will ride is another and finally the over all length of the recoil and idler complete. I get to go do some measuring tomorrow.

    Here you are,Sir.

You would to have modified the track frame and recoil spring a little bit if using DASH 6 parts.

Here is dimension of PC220-6 IDLE part.

Thank you again Mr. LACHAU! I'm pretty sure I can make the front part of the track frame and idler support blocks work in the track frame. It's the back part that worries me. The back part of the reach rod fits in a circular boss in the track frame. The Dash 2 has a large round knob that sits in the that hole. The diameter is around four inches or slightly more. The matching piece on the Dash 6 end is four point six inches. I have to measure that hole to know for sure how to make that end work. Thanks again for the information. It really helps.

Made a slug out of T1 plate with a hole in the middle that the recoil track adjuster cylinder end fits into. Built a pilot ring to fit into the old socket hole that the old recoil sat in. We got a Dash 6 recoil and front idler brand new and installed the mess today and made up the track. All totaled up, I think we got out of this for around $4K. The alternative was to scrap the machine. I'll post of photo of the mess when I get it off my phone.

I'll try to get the photos in the right order. This is the old recoil. The track adjuster cylinder rod is in the front with the grease fitting at the back. The cylinder is frozen in place. We could not pull it out by hooking one end to a PC120 and the other end to the 220 and pulling by using the track poser. It never budged.

This is the nose of the recoil and it seats into a hole in the track frame. The next photo shows the track frame and the square railing that holds the idler square. This photo shows the seating hole the recoil fits into.

Here is the Dash 6 recoil still in the box. You can see the adjusting cylinder is now at the back of the recoil. This view shows the nose a little better. The center section fits in a smaller hole and the larger section presses against the track frame seat. The outside diameter of the outer section is 8 inches while the inside diameter of the hole in the track frame is 8 3/4 inches.

Here is a close up of the nose to get an idea of what we have. This is our solution. The outside diameter is 9.5" to cover the hole, the inside diameter is 4.6" to fit the nose of the Dash 6 recoil. The ring on this side is a pilot to center this piece in the hole in the track frame. The plate is 1/2" T1 steel. Tensile strength of the plate should be around 55,000 PSI and the recoil strength is around 25,000. Redial gap between the OD of the recoil and the ID of the track frame seat is about 3/8". The machine is back together and ready to go to work on Monday.
