on the farm we are having a hard time keeping our fuel from gelling. it is not even that cold 25 degrees F. we probably have a 10% biodiesel blend. im not sure if we have number one or 2 in the barrel at the moment. we have twice the recommended rate of power service in the fuel and currently a half bottle of diesel 911 in the skid steer, and the fuel is still gelling. we used cenpeco fuel additive last year and never had a problem, but dont have any on hand currentlty. the power service says it is effective on biodiesel blends. any thoughts?
25 degrees is not very cold and with addidtive you should not be gelling. Have you changed your fuel filters before the below freezing temps hit. They may be full of water from the summer causing you your problems. You might also want to check the bottom of your fuel tank maybe water sitting there. As soon as the machine starts to move the water disperses and gets sucked into the system causing the freeze ups.
any amount of Bio fuel is hard to keep the filter from cloging up once it gets cold. Not knowing how the bio is blended is a potential problem, I would avoid useing Bio fuel bellow 32* f when ever poss! # 2 fuel untreated can cause a waxing problem where its still is above its pour point but the fuel gets cloudy and will clog the fuel filter . Once the fuel is warmed up the wax is gone and the filter is fine but getting it to run is not easy and often 911 is the only choice. If you have to use bio fuels treat every gallon with a 1/2 oz of power service with the white bottle , Not the silver bottle . the silver will not help!
had the fuel guy out this morning. he said there is no biodiesel in the fuel and we got 70% no 2 and 30% no one. (20 degrees F) i dumped a couple gallons of kerosene in the skid steer fuel tank and that didnt help. the fuel guy put 12 gallons of no 1 in the skid steer tank. that helped a lot but every once in a while it loses power. changed the fuel filter 10 hours ago, perhaps i should change it again. i find it hard to believe that nh and case skid steers are going to be the same now. those 2 machines are opposites of each other. the local welding shop had 2 newer nh skids in with broken booms. a quarry runs them, im surprised they would run nh cuz case booms are so much tougher than nh.
