Can you fill in the blanks that got censored. Guessing here, but have you changed the fuel filter? Checked the fuel tank for water or gunk? (is there a drain on the tank) See if you have fuel pressure going into the injection pump after it dies (**** off?).
The engine shut off

I had to look it up, but you're in Quebec, on the St Lawrence right? How long did it run before it shut off? and what was the temperature? If the fuel was gelling or waxing up the filters (and it started in the first place) then it would shut off fairly quickly. If it ran for an hour it would have warmed up the fuel enough that the temperature shouldn't be a factor. I think -10 Celsius is about the point where untreated diesel starts having problems. Did it just shut off once or is there a pattern to when it shuts off?
