I have a 2006 Genie s65 with the Ford LRG engine. We have been using this machine everyday for the last six months and have had little trouble. The guys called me today and said that it just died all the sudden and wouldnt restart. He thought maybe the fuel pump went so he pulled the line off the motor and it has good fuel pressure all the way to the motor. He said after it sat for a while it would restart long enough to move it out of the way and then it died again. I havent been to the jobsite yet and i was hoping to get some ideas of where to start before i go over there, its 2 hours from the shop. Im not sure where to start being that its fuel injected. Any ideas??
Welcome to the club. Having the same problems with a 99 s-65, Ford LRG 425 EFI engine Bosch system. Been doing a lot of reading, thinking, asking questions, downloading all manuals ect. My problems started when I was on a lift, hit the high speed switch, engine started to stall, misfiring, recover each time. got down, shut off , no restart. Over the past 2 weeks, will start when cold, runs rough then cleans up, hit boom lift, bogs down , recovers but lacks power. Have let it run for 30 minutes, shut off, no restart. My only fault code, is 123, not in the book. Notice the MAP sensor had been replaced, took it off, had Ford PN on it and a 5 digit aftermarket number also. Got new one for $35, no change. Thought about the stories about cars with coil pack system, car starts, runs, dies 20 minutes later, will not restart. Stopped at a rental place that has 2 40ft genies, know the owner, he got his shop man , told him the story and when I said I got a new coil pack, he said I think that will cure your problem, had the same problem on one of ours. This for a 99 Ford LGR 425 EFI, Ford Part number F37Z-12029A, fits Ford Ranger 89,99,2000. NAPA $75 or $47. It is laying in the truck and will put it on later today. I had thought about the fuel problem of ethanol blended gas. Mine had set for several months, no use, rain ect. Drained tank, changed filter, mixed stabilizer and injector cleaner in 15 gallon refill. Had start problems, then ran fine, would not restart. That got me thinking about ignition problems. Have some morning projects , will get the coil pack on this afternoon. Hope is solves the problem. Have a Ford 425 Bosch service manual coming which covers the Bosch EFI system Bob Chillicothe, Ohio
Most common thing on those is the dual fuel toggle switch in the basket messing up.
I keep my basket covered when not in use. Do you mean a moisture problem causing internal shorting across both sides of the switch. Will check it out today. Bob
Did you ever get the issue resolved? Just curious.
The 123 fault code is the code it gives when everything is okay. Almost going blind will flash three times on the mil light, best to hook up a lap top and use the ford program to check out ecu and electrical any tier 1 or 2 cord will work. Make sure you check relays fuses on the box near the engine oil pressure sender spark and all easy stuff Larry
Larry got ever thing working several months ago. The problem was the ECS sensor was shot. The plastic contact head was loose and pulled out of the brass body. It read super high megohms. replaced it and everything ran good. It took about 2 weeks of internet studying to learn how the fuel injected engine worked and everything on initial start up problems seem to come back to that sensor. Ended up addatives to the 10% ethanol fuel, new filters, fuel pressure check , several new sensors, and a new coil pack and it runs excellent. Learned how to read the 3 digit codes. It was reading 1 2 3 at the time of the problems, and it is still reads 1 2 3 now. It was a learning experience and I feel more comfortable with the machine now. Thanks for the code definition, hope it stays that way. Bob
