Are just now getting into deep tear out work at the Wentzville to Warrenton length of I-70, there have been a few glitches but this one takes Stage Front. The contractor Added a Lane where the outer shoulder once sat in two lengths, HOWEVER, the layout left a Non Access overpass in the project path that is Too Narrow between supports for the highway. That is Stracks Church Road Overpass just west of Wright City MO. Yesterday came to a Severe Point Head, a Palfinger Service truck was negotiating the Narrow spot, two standard 10+ foot lanes narrow to 9' each with Jersey Barrier to shoulder or median sides, the Bridge Support Piers sit directly behind the Shoulder Barriers. Either he got sandwiched or was forced wide where tagged the barriers at the side and lost control, ended up rolled the machine THREE TIMES Uphill just East of the overpass and damn near to on the Outer Road there. Speeding thru these narrowed and considerably less than inviting sections is prevalent, limit is 60, I generally run 63-65 and allow the morons to go around me but another of our drivers was not so lucky. He was transiting SAME Narrow Spot, a Second truck that has been ID'd on his truck Dash Cam drove our driver and truck into that very same Jersey barrier and Bridge Pier set, got BOTH Mirrors on a fairly new W990, on to the Pier, one to the invasive driving truck that WAS Speeding in excess of the limits BY A LOT against the dash cam shown speed for our truck. The other truck did not stop as our unit destroyed the R F Tire and rim with all lug studs on the barrier, there was superficial Damage from the other truck Trailer to the L F Fender and of course the Mirror. Driver successfully got the rig loaded with sand off the highway without further destruction. The Vid has been given to MSHP for investigation and litigation against the other Driver/Company. Had to be towed back to yard, LOADED, pin dolly Tub Trailer. Suspicion is the Palfinger Driver may have been forced over as well but no dash cam, he is still hospitalized. MSHP is "Considering" a heavier support Visible officer at this area but manpower is short. As was speaking with the boss on this we both concluded the Overpass should have been Dropped as a Initial Change out for the Highway work as will NOT Function with the added lanes as proposed. He is going to contact MODOT and our regional Rep in State House of this.
