ok guys im new here posted a time or two seeking answers, i have an ih 2400a industrail loader, rebuilt the engine got it going again..had piston slap but anywho now it runs great and im going through everything. the previous owner had royally *** up the wireing on this think but i got it sorted out enough to run i would like to find a good diagram of it if anyone has one i could get a copy of, i would like to get all the dash lights working properly again. not super important but im weird like that. its useable as is tho so thats not my main concern. what brings me here today is someone down the way also welded big ol hooks on the bucket wich i know is a common practice and i will replace them myself as they are very handy but they were not placed in the best spot wich has bent the top of the bucket all to heck and even cracked the "rolled lip" wich is where the majority of the strength comes from if im not mistaken. im gonna cut the hooks off cut a couples inches of the most bent part of the lip back to straight metal and then im going to either weld full length black pipe or square tube with gussets and then weld new chain hooks to that in line with the loader arms, sorry for the long read but this is my question wich would be better round or tube with gussets. this is my first tractor and it will mainly be doing firewood hauling etc. any other thoughts or info you guys can offer up i will gladly take into consideration, thanks fellas
i dont have a close up of the bent up bucket but you can see what im talking about at least and the other one is the new pistons and such just thought i would share
Square tube will give you better weld area plus will be stronger for the same size tube compared to pipe. If you in the future get to using forks on it and loading firewood in 8' lengths, be sure you add stoppers on each side extending up from the back of your bucket. Many have been killed by logs rolling over the back of the bucket when raised, rolling down the loader arms and smashing the person on the seat. We had another one killed near here a year ago. Second time it happened to the same guy. This time his luck ran out.
thank you for the advice and i will deff. do that as i am planning on making some clamp on forks for it. overall should make my life alot eaiser
I would install 3 hooks
not that i am opposed to three hooks just out of curiosity whats the reasoning behind it? more is better
Depending what you're lifting, but sometimes a center hook is nice to have in addition to hooks at the sides. Andrew
makes sense to me. looks like 3 hooks it will be. i hate seeing that bent up mess in the front i cant wait to get it done!
That's a killer shop- is it yours?
I was thinking the same thing !
no its not i wish it was it belongs to a friend of mine i am very very lucky to have free rain of the place. this picture is only 1 bay of the building there are 3 more just like in a big square divided up into 4quadrats basicly. and the best part is this building has 4 more stories on top of it same size..im very spoiled. and he also has bandsaws welders fork lifts etc to wich i can use. like i said im very very lucky and he is a great guy!
