I'm going to wind a new haulback on our 155 grapple yarder on Monday. Tuesday we are going to move it to the project and was curious if anybody had any tips or tricks for a grapple yarding newbie like myself. Any help would be appreciated thank you in advance.
Start slow and keep slow for a long while to help avoid line wrap. Have a yarder operator and spotter that don't hate each other (though they probably soon will) and shorten up one side of the grapple chains with a rigging shackle to get one tyne to hang lower than the other. Trev
Maybe a grapple camera at some stage or other active logging zone camera technology as the camera develop some more. https://www.tmarequipment.com/attachments/yarding-grapple-camera/ The curve of the grapples (and other aspects of the grapple design) need to suit the size and type of logs you are trying to grapple cable log.
Anybody here know how to rig up a grapple setup? Nobody on our crew has ever grapple yarded before and I'm having a new haulback delivered in the morning and going to need to thread the grapples tomorrow so we can start logging.
Is Brian (or similar) still around to give the crew an onsite refresher or the short classroom course? https://www.cableloggingspecialist.com/
Probably a much too late reply, but Murk100 (on HEF) would be a good source!
