The story behind the tower on top of that hill at 4 minutes in is that the shortest guyline on the downhill side was something like 800 feet to the stump. the longest was 1600 feet to the stump. I remember reading about that in the Simpson Newsletter of about 1970??? I was ordering a pair of Buffalo corks and they had all the newsletters and papers from every timber company and publisher in their store on Eastlake Ave. in Seattle.
There is some great footage there, including a clip of some short-distance swing yarding. Dad told me that back in the day, some outfits would swing through 3 or 4 spars, or possibly more, to get the logs to the rail head. Would make for a long day walking in and out from the furthest spar each day. Always like to see a hayrack boom in action as well. Some nice footage on raising a spar.
