has anyone had there dump truck sand blasted and repainted?

ggkkpp ยท 2010-10-10 17:52

I was wondering what would be a fair price on getting a dump truck sand blasted and repainted.... every sq inch but the cab, truck is a 30,000 pound single axle with a 12 foot box, little rust. Any info would be appreciated.

I just got an estimate to do the box on our tandem, its 14'. The estimate was to sandblast, treat with some type of etching chemical, shoot with epoxy primer and two top coats, then undercoat the box. They said $4800 to $5000.

So If I add in the frame work about $10,000 would probably be what Im looking at? Thanks nedly05. Any others with any info would be great.

To do the box and 20 ton trailer was close to 10 grand so you would be close to that I guess. Maybe a bit less.

just spent 4 for the cab and 12' body hand preped and painted single stage ,, sand blast was another 1700 for the body and frame cab back :eek had to cut back abit, 6k was not going to fly with the budget , body looks good now but ill see how it looks in a year

not to go off topic here, but I know of a lot of people who sand their own bodies (not sand blast) and reapint them. Of course this only works if you have the time and energy to do the work yourself.

We did out bed a few years ago. No need to etch prime just use epoxy primer and a urathane top coate. We sprayed the bottom half of the bed with rocker shutz then spray over top with the color. Workes well much better then when you buy the bed new as they do not prep then well. The key is prep or your paint wont stick.

Nowing is right on prep is the key, we use epoxy primer and a good automotive paint that is UV resistant so it won't chalk up quickly... Bill

We just did out tri-axle a couple years ago. Sand blasted frame, primered with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator and topped it off with epoxy. Blasted body with epoxy and sanded and sprayed the cab. We did all the work ourselves in the winter time and it is alot of work. I can't see paying someone else $10,000 to do though. You can rent sand blasting pots and compressors if you do not have one or pick them up at a auction like we did.

I almost choked when I saw the estimate. We will definetly keep the 10 grand and work at it ourselves this winter!(that was the dump box and 20 ton trailer btw)

Here is a pic or our Diamond Reo tractor that we did 2 yrs ago. Took 30 bags of sand to do the frame and wheels. .

We do it all ourselves. We have a big industrial sandblaster on wheels and we just sand blast the trucks out side, pull em in and prime them and paint them. The truck cabs and hoods we have done by a company near us and have them hand letter the trucks
