Heaters for Soil Drying

rustyjames ยท 2010-01-03 10:08

Anyone have any experiences with bringing down the moisture content in soil with some kind of heating system? I'm involved with a job that we have to keep moving on and we're getting desperate to come up with something. Thanks in advance.

You mean like having a big plastic tent / greenhouse and having big heaters in it? If thats the way you are thinking but it might work.

Would portland cement stabilization get the job done? Calcium chloride? Google "rhino snot"....that's a military name given to a product used to stabilize soil. It comes in liquid form and is used for making aircraft runways. For the big dig in Boston, they froze the ground to stabilize the mud for the TBM. I suppose you could use the same process with heat instead. This would be the most expensive and cumbersome means of drying the soil.

That was tried, and then the winds came

Pulverized lime works to, as will flyash, but there are associated issues using them as well. Now were dealing with the Canadian winds blowing in which will probably lead to heavy frost unless Mother Nature relents soon. I'll check into the "snot" but to keep the project moving we're seriously looking into heaters. What looks like the ticket are "mobile rotary kilh's" that they use for contiminated soil remediation.
