Can anyone give me a hand here, pulling my hair out to get information on my late grandfathers 977l serial number 11k4962...need parts for it but can’t find them when I don’t know squat about it. Also, if anyone has a good recommendation for used parts dealers for these machines please pass along my way! Thanks guys!
Your machine is a 1972 but I don't think finding parts for a 977L should be that hard. Where were you looking and what parts do you need?
Looking for the turbo pedestal from the manifold to the turbo, mine had a golf ball sized hole which is causing the machine to have little power. My local cat dealer has yet to get back to me.
Item 19, part number 7S4097 is available as a classic part, part number 3833700. Should cost you about USD$125. From what I can see, there are six available in the USA.
Steve, try Louis at LC Enterprise, hes near Wilkes Barre in PA..I just got some 977L parts from him a few months back he was parting two of them LC Enterprise, LLC 125 Import Rd Pittston, Pennsylvania 18640 Phone: +1 570-983-8051
In case you need undercareage.11K1 to 11K5958 all have the same 8" pitch track. After that it changes to 8 1/2" sealed and lubricated rails. That means you can use the track from any 977K. Look for manuals on Ebay. Best of luck!

Okay so here’s my next issue, does anyone know where the fuel shutoff is on this machine? I have some bad fuel lines and it’s pouring fuel out at the primer pump, wanna **** it off before I loose lots of $$ in fuel
Not sure on a 977 but on my 931 there is drain on the bottom of the fuel tank behind a cover that also has the fuel shut off. It can used to drain water from the bottom of the tank.
Go to the back remove sheet metal below tank. I think its a 1/4" square stem on valve. I'm not sure there maybe a second valve for draining off the bottom of the tank.
Yup! I got it thanks for the help gents, now to find where the fuel line is broken at...ugh
Use compressed air, from a portable tank if you have to. Probably want a regulator 10 - 20 psi. should do it. Rig up a catch pan where the fuel line goes into the filters/water separator by the injection pump. Do the same at the tank shut off. Shut off the tank line. Disconnect at the tank. Open up line by the filter a little ways shake it loose to get fuel flowing. Catch the fuel, take the line off. Blow air through the line from the tank side slowly. Attach line to tank. Do not turn the valve on! Tape firmly an air gun to line (you could get fittings to match up with line to tank) from engine side tape handle down to full open handle down to full open. Listen for an air leak. Do not use copper tubing on diesel fuel lines! Open up the silver or glass bowl, take a picture of the screen and post it. It’s the small one the line goes in first. Best of Luck
