I have a 2006 Case 850K LGP that has seen some recent vandalism. It has a steel plate that slides over the instrument panel and ignition box but some bozo decided he wanted to tamper with it and pryed the plate and instrument panel out a little. It pulled the ignition plug and a couple of other plugs from behind the panel. I plugged them back in and she fired right up. The bozo stripped some of the screws out and so now it won't set back flush. It really pisses me off that folks do crap like this. So does anyone know of or have any ideas of a good security setup for a dozer? I am sure some of you guys have had custom jobs done. Just looking for some thoughts and ideas. Here are 2 photos of the instrument panel area.
i think maybe from pics, i'd fab a plate hooks onto what looks like maybe footrests? on either side bottom up to grab bar with a piece of pipe welded onto it. then a piece of roundstock that slides over grabbar longer than ends, going thru pipe, flatstock welded to one end to prevent sliding thru and a lock and tab at other that attaches to grab bar. maybe 30 mins fab time , 2 mins on off and a piece of mind at nite. hope i explained it ok
Remington 870 works pretty good too. Some times better than locks.
I don't think a technical fix is going to work here. Most likely with a guy like that you'll just start a game of brinksmanship where next thing you know he's got an oxy-acetylene torch on site. Guy like that is only intimidated by two things: getting caught or getting killed. So, I vote for one of two signs tacked high in a tree nearby: - At your local gun store: "This property protected by Smith & Wesson." - At you local Lowes: "This property under video surveillance." Good Luck!
We work in forestry settings so they are usually fairly remote. This was most likely done by a teenager out riding on an ATV. That being said, I need to come up with a security plate that locks or something along those lines. Case puts one on their machines but now that I see how it is attached, it is mostly to keep the honest man honest. I need something a little more.....thanks guys for the input.
Trade it in on a deere with a cab
Put in a big capacitor and anyone that touches the machine gets hit with a 100,000 volt lightning strike
Yep and there goes a couple grand in glass, yes sir I'd do that.
He didn't say Inclosed cab.Just get one with doors and no glass.Keep the doors locked. After you put the Rattlesnake inside.
Anyone hell bent on trashing your equipment is going to do so reguardless of cabs, lockable panels, etc. You can make them work harder but you cant stop them. A lock only stops a honest person.
That is true. Most of the Law Enforcement will write you a report and say Hope you got insurance.Meaning we don't bother looking for them.Lot of times they will say under age kids and nothing will be done to them. But you let one get hurt trashing your equipment.LAWSUIT.
I have a friend that has trouble with his open cabbed skidders getting beaten up. He took a small game cam and stripped it and mounted it inside an old tool box. Its bolted down good. He has caught several kids and teens vandalizing his machines. He has won repairs in all court cases to.
Thats a smart little deal. Thats the good thing about the deeres is that gaurd is on there standard. thirstyp, i think they do make a gaurd for yours. it comes down and goes over that loop on the right hand side so that it can be locked up. If they have striped the screws you might have to rethread the holes and put a size bigger screws in . hate to hear any kind of machines get done this way..
on our cats sometimes we have had luck with leaving a key in the ignition (any real thief would have a cat key anyways) and either turning off the master key or putting in a hidden master key location, putting a sign on the machine " 24v jump start only" " or a service operators list of to do items" this way they think the machine is unuseable anyway. the idea is they could have had fun but the machine is broken
ThirstyP, I have you some part numbers from case to order a vandal kit. It doesn't come in one kit but they call it a kit so here is all the part numbers. Be sitting down when you get a total. but I think you can get awat with just 4 or these 1)89824840-washer 2)86588450-washer 3)87423748-guide 4)87423749-guide 5)87423750-bumper 6)87423751-nut 7)87423753-door Hope this helps!! Deereman
Just a suggestion but I would invest in a pretty good trail camera and if I had to leave the dozer in an area where I thought this might happen hide the camera watching the dozer and you will have pictures of the person messing with your equipment. Just like with trespassers they can't lie out of it when you have proof they were the ones doing the damage.
While the trail cam is a great idea after you have them on tape finding a LEO who is willing to take the next step is all but impossible. I once has problems at a remote cabin and installed a trail cam....... great pics of 4 wheeler and the lowlife offender...... just could get NO law enforcement agency interested.
If someone really is intending to damage your machine whatever the motive might be they will get the job done. Case example: A guy here who is frequently away got the best gun safe available. It was secured in his home in such a way that the safe only had two exposed side (one being the door side and the other being the right side as viewed from the front). The intruder(s) came into his home when they knew he was gone and used angle grinders to go through the exposed side. They extimated that he may have taken hours. They lifed his guns out through a hole they cut. He was surpirsed as he said he had trouble getting a couple of the guns into the safe through the door! What really made him mad was that they used his electricity to power their tools!!!!
First of all any one is goin to be more temted to. "Play" on your machine if its wide open for them. If you have a cab and some glass there probably goin to walk around for a bit and mozy on by, if they decide to break some stuff give your insurance company a ring and get some new glass. Plus you'd have AC haha it looks hot there
How about an enclosed cab with some type of bullet proof marguard glass? Why not just a lockable steel mesh enclosed type cab, logging style? Leave the least valuable machine for those wnakers to mess with. No one solution will fit all situations. Is the problem just or mostly or always on weekends? Video evidence is extremely strong in court!
Field cameras and youtube.... Then in that case, you put it up on Youtube and eventually someone will be embarrassed enough to do something.
