HELP! Seeking information on a Gray market komatsu PC 55 Mr-2

Flexy · 2020-12-14 21:53

Hello everyone! I’m new to this forum group and I’m looking for help determining the manufacture date of this pc 55 that was likely brought to Canada from china or japan. The serial number or product id# is: KMTPC162A38DJ1364 I haven’t been able to determine the exact year it was manufactured. There is a usa epa compliance sticker that states 2013 but that was likely added when it cleared usa customs. It is supposedly being sold as a 2013 model with only 2200 hrs. Wondering if i should take the gamble and purchase it or to wait and see if parts are readily available first by matching it to a similar sz machine and model made for the North American market? Thanks for any help or advice, cheers Jason

DJ1364 is the important part, and 2013 is probably correct. If it has an EPA sticky (if it's not counterfeit) then it's likely it was made for the US market as they don't usually waste those for domestic production. YMMV

Thank you for the replies! im guessing The hour meter isnt accurate and that all the warning labels would be in english if it was meant for N American market? I still need to verify the year of the midi from that serial number however so i can look into availability of future parts replacement! Anybody out there know of a resource for gray market serial number breakdowns? Thanks

You can inquire Japan.... or look on Machinery Trader and compare your serial number to what's listed there, extrapolate. If you call the local dealer and they haven't a clue, you know there's no parts support this side of the pond.

Thanks. I reached out to komatsu in china and im hoping the parts person can at least verify the year of the pc55. If so, im finding lots of internet sites and people who say that the smaller komatsu’s are easy to get parts for here. Im buying it to clear some land and for general, property maintenance etc so won’t be a lot of heavy usage, and if i get a good price and itt is as new as a 2013, im probably going to buy it‍♂️

Just call your local Komatsu dealer and ask. The sticker on the engine is probably generic as I believe those used the Cummins clone engine. After a certain year, all those engines had the appropriate sticker as they were all made to conform to the North American Market. Komatsu has made parts available for all the machines they built during the time frame they were making them. The problem now is that they are dropping parts support for some of those machines. The key is getting the right part number. If you don't get a parts book with the machine that actually covers it, don't buy it.

You mentioned “warning labels”. Are they printed in a language other than English or are they pictograph symbols.? If the latter it’s a common thing with many manufacturers when they sell to a variety of countries to avoid the need to produce country-specific labels.

Thank you again, there is no manuals and have confirmed its a gray market machine from the serial number. If it checks out in good shape and the price is good i will still try to buy it since it won’t be used comercially and its just going to be an acreage machine. Thanks for all the replies.
