Help with Case 580c stalling

edaw ยท 2011-08-14 15:59

I have a Case 580c that fires up with no problem, but when it drops down into idle the RPMs drop off and stalls out. It will not throttle up either. When i open the bleeder on the throttle pump it will idle and rev normal. Any suggestions to what may be causing this would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the HEF forum edaw! The 580c has no bleeder, the bolt you are loosening actually retains the cam ring - not a good thing to do while engine is running. There is a valve fitted on the return line at the top of the pump, it has a small glass ball in it. If you remove it you will find it to be jammed up with trash. clear it using compressed air. This will alow it to run normally for a while - sometimes only a few hrs, until it will be plugged up again. The trash is coming from a plastic ring in the pump that needs replacing. I would recommend a pump overhaul, unfortunately = $$$$$$

What did you find out? I'm getting ready to put a new seal kit in my 580C. It does the same thing on starting up and shutting down. From what I read, looks like the governor weights and the cup seal on the shaft drive are the tricky parts. Seal kit was about 40.00 with shipping. Hopefully that fixes it.
