Probably does not help that I have never run one but we are reviving one so we can use it for a few things. 1. Hydros for outriggers are all electric switched. When you throw any switch to operate the outrigger, the engine will pull down hard but nothing moves so I suspect either there is a safety valve or manual valve in the system that is closed or both sides of the circuits are going hot at the same time? How do these work?
Are these "telescoping" outriggers (tube inside a tube) or folding outriggers? No idea what yours is, but I'd guess the tube is rusted tight inside the outer tube. Can you see the solenoid hydraulic valves operate? you should be able to see the solenoid operate externally and see the hoses "jump" when they're pressurized.
Thanks, we are getting close to getting it figured out. This is telescopic type. Seems there is a selected solenoid plus the reversing valve that should fire simultaneously and the reversing valve is not getting power. We jumpered power to it and functions just fine. Have to figure out the power issue. We do not have a wiring schematic for it so making this really hard. There should be 12V on two separate wires to each side of the spool of the reversing valve. However, up in the dash, the relays seem to only have one wire headed there that gets power in both directions. Confusing at this point and other people's wiring hacks are not helping. Never understood why people run wires all over (that are NOT fused) instead of fixing the issue.
Gotcha. Do you have double pole switches that control both solenoids (six wires per switch) or is it a mess of relays? Always nice to remember when you've got a particularly hairy lift, hopefully you're TWO shorted wires away from a disastrous malfunction.
Have you tried replacing the double pole switches? I have replaced several switches on two Link Belt cranes that I own.The problem switches operated the outriggers. One outrigger was not operating at all or intermittently, replaced the switch and it works just fine now. Another outrigger jack was actuating both solenoids but not operating the jack,it seems that the solenoids were fighting each other, in other words, it was doing both up and down action at the same thereby cancelling the operation. Replaced the switch and it works just fine. I have been using heavy duty double pole, double throw switches made by Cole Hersee, part # 55065. They are reasonable, about $5-7 each. Try replacing the switches before you spend a lot of time diagnosing. Good luck.
