Hitachi 200,270 running hot

Plan B ยท 2011-08-29 14:09

Im working on these two machines and the operators claim they are running hot only in the afternoon when its 105+ degrees out side. So far on both machines ive gutted the thermostats cleaned out trash and dirt from between radiator and other coolers and checked fluid level. I ran both machines today for about an hour and they never got over 160. Im thinking maybe the radiators need rodding out or replacing since they only run hot when its really hot outside. What do yall think? Is there something else i can do to make them run cooler?

We used to cut out the pump and the rad/cooler door and put a screen in there for better air flow. Also a common thing I find and the first thing I go after is making sure all the foam is in good shape and not missing. The foam that seals the top, bottom and sides of the rad. If any of that is missing you will get the air circulating from the low pressure side of the rad intake to the higher pressure side of the engine and instead of blowing out by the pumps some air will circulate.

Let it get to the "hot" point then raise the engine cover and run it with it up for a bit. My .02 says it will cool right off. These things do have an air flow issue as stated above. I removed the OEM engine cover and built a cover out of small mesh expanded metal. Problem solved. EW
