hitachi ex120-3

last fall i was on a clearing job when my 120 stopped traveling, shut the machine off to check all the obvious stuff but couldnt find anything. tried again and everything was fine for a few hours. then the same thing over again, the only time it would travel is when you would hold a function over relief then it would slowly. started with the reliefs under the main valve body and found a small spring broken in the travel and boom relief. ordered a new one put it all together and everthing was fine for about an hour of operation then the same thing all over again except everthing was really slow. loaded it up and took it 90 miles west to the nearest deere/hitachi dealer to hear from them that my pvc controler was bad. told them to go ahead and replace it, after ward to hear that after replacement travel worked but everything else was still slow. He said after that they found a variable pressure compensation valve was stuck in the middle position somewhere in the circuit so they removed the valve polished it and re installed to charge me almost double what i was originally quoted($5200). got the machine home and it sat for a couple months during the winter. took it out on its first job to find out 15 minute in basically the same thing all over again, all around slow operation. boom seems to be affected the worst but when using two functions it seems to get better. Hauled it back to deere just for them to tell me now my pump needs rebuilt for there Quote of $7000.they say now the pump is not stroking properly. i didnt want to let them take another $7000 for something i think they shouldve fixed the first time so i told them no thanks and i went and got it. now its just sitting in the yard. anyone have any ideas what i could do to trouble shoot the pump or any of the million sensors that controll the pump?

i have a ex120-3 with similiar trouble, won't swing unless you crowd in or out on stick

  4. #4shopguy2012-04-21 23:35

only the stick makes it swing ? not the boom or bucket?

  5. #5Smittle Ex2012-04-24 11:44

Correct, setup for left joystick left/right swing, forward/ back stick, will only swing when Oving stick not boom or bucket

I would suspect something wrong in the pilot valve at the control lever...

  7. #7shopguy2012-04-26 22:36

Did you get it fixed Smittle ?

Not yet I think it's in the valve body under the joystick but haven't had time to check for sure. Rods that work valve to stick have full travel. But the rods depressing swing valve only go about half way

Dear digfaster, what yoiu do is below step. 1. Switch on the machine without start the engine. 2. Check every sensor connection and using multimeter to measure whether is 5.0V +-0.1V If all the sensor is correct supply all the voltage. please follow below to reset the PVC main board setting. 1. Plug off all the battery connection. 2. Open the rear cover at the PVC cover. 3. Plug off 2 PCB board connection. 4. Put is over night. 5. Reconnect it again the 2 PCB board 6. after all been reconect. Connect the battery connection. 7. Turn on the switch without start. 8. After all the light been gone at the panel and switch is off again. 9. repect step 7 and 8 for 2 times. 10. Final start the engine again. If thing is still same. Mean that you DP sensor is spoil when it was on hot temparature.

yip you were tricked by a rouge dealer, they should have changed the pump the first time this is a common fault in 120-2/3 ,normally when this happens the dealer has a recon punp on the shelf and is willing to give a fair price on the old pump on a tradein. i would advise you to buy a recon pump and try and trade your own pump in against it ,or if you have the funds , buy a recon pump and get your own pump done up in your own time, because this will happen again. it takes 4 hours and 2 people to change the pump from tracking the machine into the shed to tracking it back out , and it doesnt take a wizard to take one out and put in the new one. messing with sensors and flow settings on your old pump will prolong the pain, it can be done but only if your next move is up on a lowloader and tradein

Where do i go if i do not have 5 volts at a few sensors??

  13. #13david-chen092012-05-27 11:36

sorry for the late reply ttowntrucking... if you did not get 5 volt will having problem as below 1. cable is old and and resistor is high. Change the cable. 2. total 0 volt mean that cable is broken, or relay is fault to work. Solution check cable is ok or not before check relay. If cable problem change or add new cable from relay to sensor. 3.

you can use manual operate kit it is available with Hitachi. it will eliminate all electrical function.
