Found a old hitachi uh261 a friend of a friend works with a large engineering company and they are liquidating all their old equipment that basically only gets used for back up situations. This excavator is in real good shape for its age. Its a big ugly old bugger but The panels are all straight swing bearing is tight under carriage is good pins and bushings are fair it has a decent maintenance record available on it with a large work order performed on it two years ago everything appears to work on it. What was this model like are they good is their anything in particular on this model i should look out for before i purchase it? What is parts availability like for these machines? I run a EX270 and would be buying this unit as a back up or to use as a second unit on some jobs i can't see it getting a lot of hours on it in a year it would fall into my equipment fleet at a bargain price its hard to walk away from this deal. Thanks i appreciate all responses!!
Wow, thats a big old beast. Parts could be somewhat of a problem due to its age all though it shares similar parts with other models. With the 2 engine/pump drive set up, you not only have a lot of moving parts but I can't imagine the fuel it would use. Not to mention moving it.
any pics , id say she would be a safe enough old girl if you have records, veryeasily fixed if you can source parts
It looks okay it was owned and operated bye the same company since new and they do all their service and maintenance in house. It has sat the last while mostly in their yard but has been used in back up situations. It is a big ugly beast man is it huge but it would be good enough for me to use around the farm to save wear and tear on my main unit and for the odd job i cant see using it for any heavy digging more so in clean up work behind my 270. If i rip down a road allowance i can go in with my 270 and use the thumb to clear and stack all the rock and tree trunks and then have someone coming right behind with the huge clean up bucket on this old girl cleaning and leveling the ground right behind me. This is just one of the scenarios i thought of where it could come in handy besides even if i dont use it the price im getting it for it can sit LMAO...
So does any one have any info on these old beasts i'm still on the fence about it i would like to know a little more about them and i can't find a whole lot of info on the net any info would be much appreciated.
Sorry i dont know anything but i would like to see one

I hope for your sake it comes with the huge clean up bucket. Neat machine but the price to operate has got to be outrageous. On the other hand if you could find a paying job or two you might be able to put a few bucks in your pocket.
Yep that is her although the one i'm looking at is in better looking shape. I am finding they were quite popular in the logging industry back in the day many were used as log handlers and loaders as well as road builders but their is not many around anymore.
This is the spec sheet, looks like she weighs in around 65 ton
i would put the 270 on clean up duty and the 261 digging, it is an awesome machine on a rock ripper or digging out shale ,rock and tough muck, brut force and digging power
