Ok, might need a little help from you guys in the USA with this one, as we dont have any deere models over here! I understand that Hitachi makes excavators for Deere (corect me if im wrong), but is there any differance in them at all? or are they identical?
I thought Deere made excavators for Hitachi
Deere are just rebadged hitachi's!
Last I knew Hitachi made the mini's and the largest and Deere made the mid sized But that could have changed I guess:beatsme
from what i uderstand all the new Dash 3 hitachi's get rebadged as deere for the US dealer, Ill try and find out from the hitachi rep we have contact with at work, Joe
The main difference is that Hitachi is running Isuzu engines in their hoes whereas Deere runs their own. The Isuzus are great on fuel and are pretty quiet, at least in my experience with 12-20 ton Hitachi's. Other than that, they're more or less the same hoe as far as I understand things.
690 Deere models are the only ones that I am aware of that are "Deere only" The others are built by Hitachi and are assembled in the states with Deere engines.
Hitachi excavators started out in the US as a grey market machine only. Basically someone bought them in Japan and shipped them to the US for sale. They worked well and gain popularity and a marketing arm was put in place and the machines exported for US consumption. Deere used the 690 and the like line for years which used a Linde hydraulic system and Deere engine. It was a pretty good machine in its time. I don't know this for a fact but I believe Deere formed a joint partnership with Hitachi for engineering the hydraulic systems and electronics on machines to be marketed as Deere product. Many of the 92 series excavators and smaller had the Hitachi computers and cab controls installed. Deere engines were used in all Deere marketed products. Now days its not so simple. All the Deere machines I have looked at are Hitachi Zaxis series machines. Many of the smaller machines have Isuzu engines. The leaking pilot controllers Hitachi was famous for have been brought into the Deere line as well. I don't know for sure if Hitachi machines are sold by the Deere dealer in my neck of the woods. I do know they can get parts for about any Hitachi I would ever get asked to work on. I see many grey market Hitachi excavators still being offered for sale on curb stoner's lots. So if they are not the same machine I'm sure I would have a very hard time digging through the machine to find any differences other than paint and possibly the engine.
Me and another guy were just talking about Deere and who makes what today. From what I've read, Yanmar makes the mini excavators, Hitachi makes the mid sized ones, Liebherr makes their track loaders and larger dozers and who know what else. It seems Deere Construction is more of a paint and decal company than an equipment maker.
Either way the machine is a great machine...just depends on if you want a yellow excavator or orange.
How do you figure They make there own backhoes, skidloaders, dozers, endloaders, motor graders, I am sure Im forgetting something and most all of there forsetry equipment
Yup Th@ s right. Also with Hitachi articulated dump trucks, a great bit of gear are a rebadged Bell from South Africa due to a tie up with th@ company. Powerful and cheap to run.
deere HI all on Deeres webb site they have a press release that they are going to manufacture there own track loader and liebherr to make the 2 biggest dozers. There isnt anything mentioned about the d9 size dozer that Lieberr to be manufacturing. in the future I have seen both Deere and Hitachi loader on the same assembly line in the Decator Loader plant Deere has very good quailty machines and enjoys a good relationship with other machinery companys they rebadge and sell there products. they arnt the only large company dueing this it only makes sense to share techonolgy this allows for a widder product line and better usage of engineering and production capibilities thanks the BIG D
they are both the same but the motors
May not be entirely acurate but as I understand it, the older Deere excavators 690. 790 and 990 were made by John Deere. The later models soon after those were Hitachi made with deere electronics and engines. Then Deere and Hitachi formed a North American Partnership. Hitachi made excavators for Deere and Deere made Loaders for Hitachi. The smaller excavators upto the 350D's have Deere engines in them. The larger excavators 450D to 850D have Isuzu engine in them. All the North American Hitachi Reps. acutually work for and are paid by John Deere.
Deere is far more then just a paint and decal company!! In most cases Deere owns a pretty big share of that company. Don't know for sure but it seems like 48% of hitachi, 31% of bell and bought out timberjack as well as a few small companies. Don't know about libherr share?? Even if it is just a rebaged machine in the first of a seires of machines like the track loaders and dozers were: usuallly by the second series its had time for deere minds to work on it and make it better. It takes a lot of cash to come from the ground up to make a new product.. 17d,27d,35d,50d,60d,75d,85d,135d,225d,190w,220w,450d,650d, and 850d all come from japan. The rest are made in a joint building in kernersville,nc. Its not all hitachi.Deere has its say and R & D. And to my knowledge there are only a few independant hitachi dealers out there. The rest you can find at the local deere dealer. If it was left up to hitachi there would be no orange in the states but all deere's with isuzu in them.Alot of people like hitachi and will argue with me when I say this but hitachi's are good on fuel but a deere will outdig it every day of the week If you're going to load trucks get a hitachi. If you're going to lay pipe get a deere...Either way it still beats being on a cat..
Hi again everyone, Like i just wrote in another post, the reason i started this tread is that over here we dont have any deere excavators, but we do have a load of hitachis! Over here getting info on machines is not that easy, If Deere and Hitachi are the same I can get parts info on the Deere website to help with rebuilding or just fault finding! They have full parts manauls on hand! this could be very useful!
JackDeere has it right. The Deere excavator is Hitachi technology, sometimes with Deere engines but many with Isuzu's just like Hitachi. Deere is responsible to sell Deere and Hitachi brands throughout the Americas, including parts/support. Any "Hitachi" guy in the Americas is on the Deere payroll. They jointly own a factory in the US that builds some of the models for both brands. The rest come out of Hitachi's big factory in Japan, both brands. I believe the mini's are Hitachi technology too. I agree with the earlier comments, Deere has some pretty good technology of their own but do a good job leveraging their relations with Hitachi, Bell, and Liebherr, too.
The answer is paint Controls are exact from the Deere to the Hitachi. When you open up the main side door to look at the pump on a Deere, it says "HITACHI". Re-sale seems to be the big difference. The Deere will sell better than the Hitachi upon re-sale. But the exporters won't touch a Deere because of parts issues even though the parts are made in South America so you figure the boys in South America would have no issues getting replacement parts. Hey, it could be worse. Deere could have partnered with Kobelco. My rating is as follows, do you agree with me? 1) CAT 2) Komatsu 3) Deere/Hitachi 4) Case 5) Daewoo/Doosan 6) Kobelco 7) Samsung 8) JCB (never run one, how are these machines?)
Wasn't this tread about Hitachi/Deere ? And not what you think is the best machine?
Does anyone know about the Hitachi ex3600? it starts rolling in next week and i well be the night shift operator.
I know the machines have different engines but whta about hydraulic pumps? The company I work for has both Hitachi and John Deere 200 one has 1200 hours the other 2000 and the Deere is twice as fast as the Hitachi.
Deere Faster In the size you are speaking of ( 200 ) the Deere engine has a better torque curve and therefore the pump pulldown can be adjusted diffrent on the Deere vs the Hitachi. The control valves are exactly the same, and at one time came to the factory set up for Hitachi's and the dealer was responsible for resetting the pull down. In a school they put two excavators digging head to head to show the diffrence in the unit that had be setup properly, vs the one that had not been reset, and the diffrence was drastic. That is the only diffrence that I know of.
I think you have it backwards. Deere does not want the orange machine in the North American market. Deere has a marketing agreement in North America with Hitachi.
No this came directly from a hitachi corp man.
I heard through the grape vine of some problems with the Deere/Hitachi partership. Don't know if its true. Anyone heard anything about that?
The new twist This should start something Doosan (Daewoo) is making a wheel loader for Deere now not sure what models.
"Bells new E series Wheeled loader range which spans 12t to 27 ton operating weights and with 2.2 up to4.7cu meters is now part of a new generation of loaders that also wears a John Deere K-series Badge in its native North American market, and that's because Deere owns a 32% stake in Bell, with the pair linked in manufacturing and marketing alliance that gives Deere access to a ready made range of ADT's that are assembled in the US and equipped with their own engines,in return Bell gets access to a range of wheeled loaders with just about every option available from Deere build list." Earthmover's magazine June 2009 Shoots down the Daewoo/Doosan tie up
Daewoo (now Doosan) and Deere were jointly developing a large loader, but Deere pulled out of the venture. Doosan now markets the model as their own. As far as dual branding/distribution goes, Doosan does build Terex-branded loaders and excavators for North America if not other parts of the world. Hyundai builds a large loader model for Case, so it's marketed in both brands too.
It gets more complicated: Hitachi is the 3rd link in this global relationship. - In the Americas Deere runs the show and distributes/brands Hitachi and Bell stuff. - In Asia Hitachi runs the show selling Bell trucks and some Deere products. Hitachi has their own loader range they sell successfully there. - In Europe and Africa Hitachi and Bell run separate operations and Deere yellow gear didn't show up there. Hitachi is getting more successful selling their own loaders there and now Deere seems to be bleeding in to the Bell distribution with their loaders. It will be interesting to see how this evolves. Deere has made it's own moves in India and China so one wonders how Hitachi feels about that. Flipside, Hitachi has moved to control Kawasaki loaders someday after digesting TCM and Furakawa. Each have successful businesses the other participates in in some places: Deere in global forestry via their Timberjack purchase, and Hitachi in global mining with big shovels and trucks.
Well next month it will be somthing different
"Ok, might need a little help from you guys in the USA with this one, as we dont have any deere models over here! I understand that Hitachi makes excavators for Deere (corect me if im wrong), but is there any differance in them at all? or are they identical?" The difference that makes the DIFFERENCE to me is that most JD machines have JD engines which are fine, but the Hitachi has the Isuzu engine that is better on fuel (I know because I have owned both). The Isuzu (in my opinion) is also better matched with the Hitachi Hyd. pumps. My .02 :usa
Like everyone else i was to believe, They are the same except the engines in certain models. The Isuzu engine in my opinion is the best motor on the market real quite sips on fuel and has all the power necessary. Link-Belt excavators also run Isuzus and are by far the best machines i've ever run Brendan
Ive got to agree with ya on the Isuzu part.
The only difference is the engines and JD has to put in a modifide coupler so thier engine fits on to the tranny.
the midsized ex's were made in davenport ia until 5-10 yrs ago, hitachi makes em now. your last sentence is a lil off tho, they now make the articulated dumtrucks there instead of the ex's, they also make the log skidders, graders, end loaders, and cabs in dport. the smaller (i think) dozers, backhoes, and skidsteers are made in dubuque ia, i see em goin down the interstate all the time.
Deere builds excavators in their Dubuque, Ia plant. I am told they are identical to the Hitachi except for the sheet metal, paint and have a Deere engine.
Incorrect Sir. Deere and Hitachi excavators (120 - 350) are built in Kernersvillle, NC. Both brands of 450 and up are built in Japan along with the mini's and reduced tail swing machines. 120 - 350 have Deere engines and Deere designed cooling packages along with pump controllers optimized for the Deere torque curves. The 450 and up are paint and decal differences. No excavators built in Davenport or Dubuque.
This is correct. Along with some forestry equipment and the HSD I believe.
