Hitachi ZX330 problem: No power

jemmyboy70 ยท 2012-10-18 04:19

Hi all, I am running a ZX330 hitachi. The machine works fine for a few hours, then all of a sudden loses power. It cant lift the boom and trams very very slowly. I have to put the machine off for atleast 30 min before it starts to work again. Ive changed all filters, hydraulic, air, diesel but to no avail. This is really frustrating. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem can be? Thanks

If your rpm is dropping, check all banjo fittings in fuel lines. Remove line from bottom of tank to verify no blockage at bottom of tank. After alot of machine hours could have sediment build up in tank. If rpm is fine and looses hydraulic power remove your main relief valve and disassemble. Possibly could have debris stuck against poppit seat.

Good info above. Also check for rust in fuel tank. My Zaxis 200 would run well with a full tank than bog down when fuel reached .5 tank. Rust chunks were clogging lines before the fuel filter.

also check the fuel cap breather isn't blocked, check the fuel inline line banjo bolt fitted into the lift pump, theres a screen in there which needs cleaning out every service, depending on age sometime this screen is fitted by mistake in another place on the fuel system which would make it hard to find if it blocks up another fuel related thing to check after all this would be the fuel pump outlet banjo, this is fitted with a valve to hold pressure in the lift pump system (doesnt sound like this due to your symtoms though) if it struggles under full load I'd be checking this

I had this problem very recently with my Deere 450CLC and it turned out to be a faulty air temp sensor, which was telling the ECM that the air inlet temperature was too high. When that happens, or the water in fuel sensor senses moisture in the fuel, or a bunch of other things, the ECM will derate the power and the machine will be barely able to lift the boom and crawl. I did the same thing at first and changed all filters, the fuel lines etc, because I thought it was a fuel problem. Then I bit the bullet and brought a diesel mechanic in, and he hooked up his computer to the diagnostic port and had it sorted in no time. I would suggest that you get someone with the DrZX tool to trouble shoot the problem. You might be surprised how quickly they can figure it out with the right tools.

I've also seen guys stuff around for ages with the "right" tools beacause they over looked somethine basic, a good mechanic who knows how to troubleshoot, with (or without) the tools is what you need

G'day Agree with all of the above, had the same problem with a 330 with some crap in the bottom of the tank, would run ok with a full tank but would play up when it got down a bit. Just watch when you turn off the tap to take off the fuel line, in my case the crap in the tap dislodged the teflon washer in the fuel tap shutting off 3/4 of the flow, had to dismantle the tap to iron out and turn over the washer and reassemble, next time I would shove a piece of wire up the tap first to clear the hole before turning it off, bloody messy but you end up with diesel running down to your armpit and most likely down to your jocks anyway by the time you remove the tap and poke a wire up the hole,(which you have to live with all day if you're up the bush) it's jobs like this that you think "who'd be a friggin mechanic".
