Im glad my dad doesn't see this site because all he says Every time he sees one all he says is hes going to renew his search for a Daniel Best steam tractor. Which means im going to have to haul it and do the heavy lifting and repair. as much as i would love to have one too i just don't have the time.

holt steam crawler no its not that one, that one is an expert repo. , the pic i have is a framed pic. the pic can be found on the net under "hornsby steam crawler" from what i gather, hornsby from great brittain built this huge thing, then found no interest in its design! thats when holt bought it, and took it to new dimensions. when you find the pic of this original tractor, you will be amazed! its an old black and white pic. it took a crew to man this thing, as well as a tender car towed behind it to toss fuel and water to it! some canadian company found this machine ideal for dragging the felled lumber(trees) out of the deep woods! when you guys see this pic, check out those big drive gears and think about shirt sleeves and such! those gears could drag a man through and never miss a beat! it might even speed up with the extra lube lol!

Look at it this way. When Dad finds one, and you get to haul it and do the bull work it will be a terriff Dad and Son bonding experience. Wish I had that opportunity.

I hope this fantistic piece of history is being taken apart so it can be restored. Can you imagine the show piece and attention it would get?

That's so neat. I grew up in Grantham, Lincs, UK where that machine was made. Most of my relatives still live there. Sadly those big factories of Ruston Hornsby and Aveling Barford are now gone. Thanks for the link. Chris Brisbane Australia.

http://hornsbycrawler.org/index.php/Main/Gallery1 Looking at the bottom picture and reading the description, I have decided to never whinge about greasing the machines. Wonder how often they had to do the 160 lube points?
