How difficult is it to replace the lower turn table seal on a JD 160LC?

I have a 1999 160LC with excessive grease leaking down from below the turn table bearing. According to my manual there is a seal (looks like and oring) replacement with some adhesive as well. My manual shows the machine torn apart, however is that necessary? Can the seal be replaced without splitting the machine? How would that be done? We cleaned up the area and can feel the seal which at one point has about 1/2" or so missing... this is where most of the leaking is. I'm thinking this is a pretty simple replacement fix, however would like some pointers and tips if you guys have any. Thanks!

I had the same problem on a 200 kobelco. Got a new seal and cut it in half with a razor blade, clean everything up real good glued the seal together with some adhesive cant remember the adhesive though. It stayd put as long as I can remember. Use grease spairingly!

Yes its easy enough to do, the book is probably showing a picture of the inner seal as well. Just remove the old one, clean the area extremly well with solvent or the like and replace with the new one and glue the two ends together. If your doing the repair in a warm shop try to leave the new seal as long as possible, so that when you get back in the cold it does not contract and pull apart the glued ends. Over greasing is the number one cause of these leaking.

It is not hard at all.The glue they are using is like Crazy Glue or Supper Glue .I have done few of these .Take you time ,clean well .Try to do inside if you can it will b a lot easier. And make sure you push the seal in tight so it is not strechted out, work it in .Don't cut th seal to short.Leave your self enough lenght.
