How to move a burnt excavator?

Dirtman2007 ยท 2008-06-30 21:20

Ok in this thread you will read about the fire we had today Now my question is once we get the drive motors free, whats the best way to get the boom tucked up so that it's in the transport position? I'm pretty sure we can get it on the lowboy using the volvo 210 and takeuchi 150 to push and pull it up there. anyone ever had to do this before? just FYI there no way to drive the machine and 99% sure it can't be fixed onsite.

    use a portable hydraulic pump

I would disconnect the hydraulic lines and loop them back to the other side of the boom cylinders, basically making the circuit float. Then either use the other hoe manipulate it or lift and chain it up til it's on the trailer. Looks like you'll need to unhook the swing motor too. I hope the engine and pumps didn't get too hot, i had a bad experince using a FE 390 after the barn it was in burned. Ground itself to little metal bits in no time flat. Maybe i'm an optimist, but atleast it he'll get new paint. Gotta find some good somewhere.

Once you get it loaded.I would say crack some of the lines for the boom and stick. You will loose oil,but would let things move. Probably would have to use your other machines to moves things after the lines are cracked a little.Good luck.:usa

i'd hook a porta-power to it if the hyd lines aren't burnt too bad.

I would personally load machine on lowboy with another excavator after you completely removed drive motors. I do agree you need to removed swing motor, or unlock brake some how, not familar with your machine too much. Once on the trailer i would follow you boom lines to your main valve body. Instead of cracking lines and getting oil all over you lowboy, all you need to do is back out your line reliefs for the circuits. If you wanted to drop your boom down slowely you could just back them out till you start to get movement and regulate it with how much you unscrew them or screw them in. this will return all the oil to the tank with out breaking open a line or looping lines. If you need to move an implement with another machine just back out both line reliefs for the head end and rod end of you cylinder and it will be in a float position. This is a safer way of dropping implements with a dead engine and no electrical function. Had to move a CAT 345B (with a hammer on machine) that blew a hydro line and caught the whole engine compartment on fire, ended up pulling it around with a D9T :Banghead . Good luck and hope this helps you

I agree with herb, the only thing is if you set the boom down on the trailer you can't get it up to unload it. We had to move a linkbelt 330, and we used a beam trailer, we pulled the stick pin in order to manipulate the stick to where we could crane it up and chain to the boom. Then we pushed the trailer under the excavator with a dozer. Then backed the cicuit relief off to lower the boom. With the beam, you can set the the machine on cribbing when you get to where you are going and pull the trailer out from under your machine with enough clearance to clear the stick.

When you move it try and get a Landoll trailer. A 160 sized machine will fit on it. That's to bad about the machine.
