I cant remember exactly how to do this, so i am asking for some advise. My hub is leaking on the outside of the rim and the oil runs down the outside face of the tire. I am assuming that the o rings are shot that are on either side of the "female gear housing" that makes up the outside of the hub?? I was going to go to bearing distributors to have them match them up tomorrow (the kit from the factory is $200!). Am i right in assuming this? If that is the case do i just remove the old o rings and clean the hub and put it back together or is there more to it than that? I removed the cover and the female gear housing, the only thing i saw was the two large o rings and no signs of dings or gouges or anything out of the ordinary. By the way this is a Terex TB110 lift with quantum bradley hubs aka power wheels. They arent in buisness any more from what i hear and their parts are a mint$$$$ Thank you for your help in advance, i appreciate your time!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm trying to think how your getting oil leaking down the outside of the wheel. The only seals you should have that would do that is the o-ring that seals the cover plate, and o-rings that would seal the manual disconnect pin if it has that feature. Are you sure your hub wasn't overfilled and pressurized with oil from a failed seal in a drive motor or failed seals in a brake assembly? Can't remember about Power Wheels planetary hubs, but many of those type hubs, such as Auburn Gear, the gears are timed when you re-install them, otherwise, you can't get them to match up. I don't think the Power Wheels hubs are like that, just can't say for sure.
Maybe it got overfilled and blew the o rings out? The gear is a bear to get lined back up but i dont think that its timed. When the drive motor blows it usually leaks down the back side of the rim doesnt it? Havent talked to you in a while atco, its nice to see you!
Aye mate. Yes, usually when you have a bad motor or brake assembly pressurizing the planetary case, it will blow the hub shaft seal, leaking down the inside of the rim. That's what's curious about this to me, your leaking on the outside of rim. How about just replacing the planetary cover o-ring, and o-rings for disconnect pin if it has that, fill with the proper amount of gear oil, and see how it does. After you put the proper amount of gear oil in planetary hub, you can operate the drive for a period of time, then check the oil level. If you have leakage from drive motor or brake, your going to see it then.
I will do that, fill it to just below the pipe plug when its at the top of rotation?
No bro, a planetary hub is at proper oil level when fill/check plug is at a horizontal plane across center point of hub, gotta leave some room for expansion. In other words, fill hub to half way point.
