hey guys i was looking for some tips from those of you who may have more experience repacking cylinders than I do. My Komatsu D41 needs all 5 cylinders done, i went out to work on the worst offender the other day and couldn't manage to break the gland end free. once its apart its a cake walk ive done several in the past but ive never had this much trouble with the caps. any tips are appreciated!
1. Make sure there's no set screw or lock holding it tight. 2. Use more torque, make whatever it takes to get a firm grip on the gland and a long enough lever on it to break it loose. 3. If it's rusted (or has an aluminum gland!) then peen the cylinder around the gland. HeavyEquipmentForums 4. If that fails, then heat it up in case it's locktited. Post a pic of the gland, I'm not familiar with Komatsu style so there might be other ways to do it.
