Yair . . . I was talking to a bloke who has just done a trip through Russia and he reckons one of their excavator manufacturers has completely different ideas on excavator design. In affect each function, boom, stick, bucket curl, near and off side drive and swing each have their own dedicated hydraulic system with seperate pump, tank and valving. He reckoned the pumps looked to be "common as" gear types arranged in a circle on an oil filled housing . . . obviously driven from a common gear on the fly wheel. They were all very accessable and retained by four bolt flanges. There were big tanks and "luberfiner" type filters but as far as he could see bugger all in the way of cooling . . . the diesel was air-cooled. Now this pump drive arrangement sort of stirs some distant memories, did the early Hi-hoes or Kato's have a similar setup? Any comments? Cheers.
