Why not just weld some hooks/teeth on the existing thumb. It seems like a pretty good start.

Yair ...As BDFT says thats what most folks would do...maybe alter the geometry or what all to get it working right, why start again from scratch? On the other hand if you actualy like messing around with a design exercise on a computer thats completely up to you. Cheers.

Make the radius bigger and have it start around the U on the side. Something like this http://www.cwsindustries.com/images/products/hyd_excavators/thumbs/pagebox/02_hyd_direct_big2_03.jpg It's also going to need somekind of cross tube for the cylinder to push on and stiffeners between the teeth.

the reason i am starting Fresh is because the geometry on the old thumb is Not very good, it only has 90Deg of Articulation and the design of it does not allow me to move the mounting point of the cylinder at all.

Well i am kinda going towards more of a Log handling thumb like this which is on all the excavators i Operate. Funny thing is this is the First thing i will be building that i have Planed/Designed i have alwayed built stuff by the set of my pants which most of the time works out lol, the only reason i am Modeling this time is because i am doing it as a Final Project for My C Level Welding Program so they Force to Make Plans :Banghead . And the 4 Hours that it toke me to make the model is 4 hours of my Life Which i will Never get Back.

That one still has a radius after the cross tube out to where it tightens to form the tines. If you need help, let me know i've run most of the cad programs out there. I can bang stuff out in pro-e pretty quick like.
