hydrolocked diesel

T-Bird ยท 2019-06-20 16:08

I dont know exactly where to put this, but this seems as good a place as any. I need some imformation regarding a engine that got rain water in the intake and hydrolocked. it happened to me and unknown to me until i went to start it, pulled the glow plugs and ejeceted the water and it starts and runs. but now i have a new problem, the head gasket has always seeped a little but now after about 30 minutes running its no longer a seep! so here is where i plan to go, locate a headgasket set, pull head and check for damage, maybe even do a valve job while i have it down. problem is its a mitsubishi s4e engine and i have a parts manual on the machine but it DOES NOT cover the engine! i need to know the basics, head bolt torque, valve adjustment etc. but a part number for a head set would be a good start. thanks if you all can help.

mitsubishi bs3 seriel no i think because i cant read japaneese is 27558. i found that number stamped into the engine as well as the data plate on the machine itself. my dozer has the same engine and it is a mitsubishi bd2f. the decals are missing on the loader but it is a bs3, i dont know if it had a letter afterward or not. I think cat used this same engine in some of their smaller units. if cat didnt design it they done a good job copying cat! i just noticed my parts book says BS3f

confirmed it is a BS3f, found it on the data tag.

A first consideration for the Hydrolock. You said found it when cranking, did the engine make a full round or immediately lock down? You stated purged water and is running, noises? Major concern here is that it has bent a(or more) valve or a connecting rod. Need to get on the given access sites and locate a engine manual. As best I can locate a S4E engine is what you presumably have.

no, it didnt make it a full turn. no abnormal engine sounds, no misfires, no knock and it is indeed is a s4e engine cast right into the block. if i hadnt had the floorboard out while it was running i wouldnt know it had gotten worse. #4 cylinder had the water in it, leaking around #2 &#3 and some around the other side of the engine @#1 cylinder. no water in oil, no smoke runs fine until warm then leaks. I shut it down as soon as i seen it had gotten worse and it has not been ran since

Here is a manual: http://thunderbutte.net/BD2F BS3F Service Manual OCR.pdf Look on page 20 of the PDF (page 15 on the printing) where it says Performance curves Should be right near the cast S4E but stamped of course.

I dont know how you found a manual but thank you! the seriel number i posted should be correct because thats exactly where i found it on the engine. been a while since i have torqued in newton meters.

Download the manual to your own computer in case it disappears off the internet.

anybody know how to get ahold of him? ebay has blocked his contact information and it appears he may have been having trouble getting messages. down right nasty on ebays part if you ask me! guess they were afarid they may not get their piece of the pie. I have no complaints though, he has always done me right.

nevermind, he is pretty slick. I looked at some of his other listings and low and behold the pictures of items were taken on a for sale sign with his number CLEARLY posted on the sign. Brilliant!!!
