Hyundai Processors?

JGibson ยท 2014-10-07 18:49

**Posting for a friend** Hey. At work we are looking at buying a new processor. We work in multistem applications so this machine will be fitted with a Southstar QS600. The machine in question is a 2012 Hyundai 2924 with 1200 hours on it. It ran a Waratah 624c head before but they are keeping that? What do you guys think of the Hyundai forestry machines? Thanks, Tim

No experience with Hyundai forestry, but the excavators I've been around were ok, just cheap. The engines, pumps, valves etc. were common parts, but all the non-critical stuff - cab interior, lights, accessories, etc. quit as soon as they got a little age on them. They were all 2000 or earlier models, though.

The only question you need to ask is how great is your Hyundai dealer?

I would question why they are selling a 2012 model but keeping the processing head. That points to something not being right on the machine side unless it was just to small for the head. There was a lot of dollars expended there for only being used 1200 hrs in 2 years. The processors around here usually run 24 hrs a day to move enough wood for the owners to make the payments on low margins.

If I remember right, towards the end of their companies existance both Madil and Thunderbird used Hyundai carriers when they built their log loaders/processor machines.

Hyundai has come along way in the last few years. I work as mechanic for a dealer where we mostly sell forestry machines. The 624 was probably too big for the 2925 (250) machine. We have put several TS585 and a few QS600's on 2925's and now 3026 (260) models.

Don't have Southstar/Hyundai pics handy right now! Logmax fixed head and hoechucker.

***posting for a friend*** Thanks Guys for the response. We ended up keeping our old processor (Volvo EC240BFX with waratah 622b). The hyundais look great and will definitely be looking at them in the future. Thanks, Tim
