I really need my dozer for a mountin of snow. I can not get this thing started. Its a TD15 that starts on gas. It has Never failed me. Should I disconnect the alternator (12v) and jump the batterys to 24V. It just wont spin fast enough to fire cause its got summer oil #40 and temps are -0-. Never needed it in the winter-but we get a blizzard every week and we trucked in so much snow Im getting out of room cant use loader cause it rained went to -0- and the snow is now concrete
Thinking an inline heater may do the trick if you got hose enough to do it. Just install between the block and the radiator. The brand Kats makes a good one, and all ya do is cut the radiator hose and install using good brand of clamps. Your local auto part store should have them for around 20-25 bucks. It's better to do that rather than burn up your starter on 24v. You might get by for a while but eventually it will burn up the starter.
I have seen some heated dip sticks advertized but can not remember where.Any thing to heat the oil and /or the coolant will help.Shop heaters etc.
heater is the best idea. Then after you get it running change the oil to lighter weight for the rest of the winter. hooking 24 volt to the starter will cook it in short time.
put a tarp over it & use a space heater under it. after you get it running you can install some kind of block heater.it will start like summer time.
tarp cover and spaceheater...... once it fires up change to a lighter oil for winter use. No need for a block heater on the IH start on gas diesels. My family have owned these in ag tractors and dozers for years and if they will spin they will start.
Thanks thats what i thought but its down the pit with no electric suppose to hit 40* today it should start.
Weedburner and a old stack we've heated stuff up that way.
I Have an old gas start 15 which is sitting. If you are running the batteries under the seat, there is a lot of voltage drop in the battery cables if you have the long cables to the starter. and 2 6 volts in series. I ended up setting a heavy 12v at 900 amp cranking on the tracks with short cables to the starter, fire it up and set battery in back of truck and go to work. I unbolted a starter housing bolt and bolted the ground side right to the starter frame. The original ground was to the frame under the seat. More voltage loss. Thats a pretty paint job on your machine. Had a lot of fun with it, but the ACHD21A is more fun to operate. Bob Ohio
If your experiencing THAT much voltage loss you need some new cables.
Thanks everbody but Sunday it got 40* and it started right up...
