In July 2010 our "Ready to Proceed" infrastructure projects in Australia stood at $A11.6B, by July 2011 it had gone to $A19.8B. "Ready to proceed" generally means that if funding was there it would be underway. The growth in that number is not qualified, it probably contains a portion of "new" projects but it also would contain a large amount of aged infrastructure that will just get more expensive the longer it is not attended to. As suppliers of expertise and equipment to solve these problem we ought to be lobbying more strongly for better systems to fund infrastructure replacement when it is prudent to so do and before it hits crisis time with massive extra costs and delays...
