We have a roller in the shop with no forward or reverse. Checked all safety switches and parking brake. 400psi at test port when parking brake is engaged. Found scoring in propulsion pump, so machine has new pump. Nothing happens when lever is pushed to forward or reverse. No audible change at all and cannot feel anything in hoses. Linkage on pump is moving. Vibratory pump and steering pump working fine. Is there something we are missing? Any help is appreciated.
There should be a charge pressure test port. What is that psi reading when in neutral? What is it when you stroke forward and reverse?
I believe it’s just under 400 when parking brake is engaged. If you flip the switch it will drop and then take a few seconds to come back up. Should we check the suction strainer? Have you ever seen any issues with that? Does not change when going forward or reverse.
Is the FNR control a cable or is it electrical?
It’s not electrical it just moves a cable/linkage to move the swash plate on the pump.
Did the roller move into your shop on its own? What was the conditions when it failed, was it on a job working when it stopped? Any noises? Why was the propulsion pump pulled and rebuilt? Is there any type of electrical component on the pump? I am trying to determine if there may be another problem that's not related to what you are focused on.
it stopped working on a job. No noise. We installed a reman pump. And only electrical on the pump is the neutral safety switch and parking brake switch and they are both functioning. With the parking brake on when you move the lever the pump should still screech. We have no resistance on the lever and no noise at all.
We had to push it into the shop.
Try plugging the high pressure lines at the pump and see if it builds pressure. You may have a drive motor link broken in the front or the back. You can plug the high pressure lines at the motors too.
What Vetech said. With hydrostatics if charge pressure is OK - you’ve got to isolate pump from motor and test pump separately. Just don’t pressure up lines for more than a few seconds, do not overheat the pump. Did you do exchange on reman pump? Do you know anything about damages inside the old pump? Those closed loops they usually damage both - pump and motor.
Sorry, I’ve missed the “scoring in the pump”. Like I said - in hydrostatics usually both get damaged. But you got to methodically go through the steps, maybe you are lucky.
We had something similar happen on our 150D (no forward or reverse) It died though, we were able to get it running but still wouldn't move. Cable lever worked normally. Found a hidden fuse in the bottom of the control box area that was corroded. Took forever for such a simple fix. Are all your gauges working okay? We have an even older 150D must be late 80's that wouldn't move and the nut on top of the direction selector wasn't tight enough. Everything appeared to be actuating but upon close inspection it wasn't turning the valve. I have one in the shop now if you need any diagnostics
Do you have a sn? It could be a drive enable solenoid issue but need the sn to know if your machine was equipped with the drive enable solenoid.
Hello, Can u help me? I have a 2001 IR - SD100D looking to rebuild a propulsion pump . Do u know any where I can get some parts? I don't want to buy a whole new pump for 8K . IR/VOLVO has discontinued the pump all together.
Looks like you are going to need an entire rotating group, swashplate and likely bearings and seal kit. This is a Sauer Danfoss pump and parts should be pretty easy to come by. Any respectable hydraulic repair should be able to help. Don't forget to go through the drive motor(s) too.
If the filter was full of cuttings, you will have to clean out every hose and valve on machine. I worked on a 2000ish Ingersoll rand compactor that stopped moving and filter was full and unit went to bone yard. It was less than 10 years old. Simon C
