2004 case 580 super m series 2, my backup alarm works fine until the machine warms up and then is hit and miss, if machine is shutdown for awhile the alarm works again for 10 or 15 minutes then is intermittent again. Wondering what to look for. Thanks for any insight into this.
My 580 Super L does the same thing, although it may work fine for a whole day and then not work for a week. I'd like to know where it is and if it can be unplugged.
The back up alarm is controlled by the FNR lever. If the machine is continuing to drive in reverse & the back up alarm stops working, the problem is likely a faulty alarm. Here in Australia (we have side shift machines) the alarms are located near the bh control valve behind the RH rear wheel.
thanks airman, will check that out. i was starting to think it may be a pressure problem, thinking that as the hydraulic oil warmed up i was experiencing a pressure drop, viscosity issue or a pump issue, which in my mind seemed logical. but if the backup alarm is controlled by a switch on the FNR lever that would not be the case. cheers
airman could be right or it could be a weak connection. The BUA in my 310D did the same thing for a year. One day my fuel solenoid gave up turning on. So the engine would not run. After troubleshooting I found that the fuse that controlled the backup alarm and the fuel solenoid was not connecting properly and thus heating up the fuse blade and melting the fuse casing (did not burn the element). The backup alarm was also sometimes sound faint as well. Now it's loud all the time.
thnx deon, i don't seem to be having any electrical issues or as you guys pointed out that may be one, so i should say no other apparent issues, but this site has so much knowledge from so many people with years of expereince one has to consider all possibilities.
Usually the backup alarm is controlled by a "micro-switch" in the FNR lever. You either have a poor connection at the switch or at the alarm, usually two wires at each end. Power and ground, you can also try,,(when the alarm goes off when it shouldn't") to pull back on the lever (reverse) and see if that brings it back on, if it does, the micro switch may need adjustment. Sometimes the lever will vibrate a little, disengaging the alarm.
What about when the alarm stays on continuously through FNR?
First things first. You need to find out what type of switch controls the back-up alarm. Some use a switch on the linkage, some use a switch on a control valve spool some use a pressure switch if it is a hydraulic operated transmission. As Rokbart did not specify what make, model and S/N the machine he is asking about it is anyone's guess at how to fix it. Also the last post before his was March 30, 2015, another "Zombie" thread with no resolution! I would strongly suggest letting this one die and for Rokbart to start a new thread for his problem and give use some of the information listed above along with when the problem started, what has been tried and how long it has been going on. "More information gets better answers."
Thanks, I will do that. I'm new to forums.
If placing the lever in reverse, with engine off but key on, activates the backup alarm, then no pressure switch is involved.
