hi,Once again i am back on this great site seeking some info...I have the chance of shortly purchasing a International TD14, looking at it with the owner he informs me it starts on petrol then turn to diesal,,is direct start, 24 volt system (2 times 12 volt batterys) ..( not sure if the 24 volt is manufacturers or not),, he says it has a siezed steering clutch, i notice the bonnet cover is nearly rusted out on one side,,, hasnt been started for many years but been in a shed for that time,,, has a cable operated blade, the wire rope looks ok ,as does the winch on the back..rear sprockets look like they are getting down a bit...didnt notice to many other negative things on the dozer, most are normal for the age,...Now my questions are, Would there still be any Bonnet covers around or maybe a metal business could make one,,, Would the siezed steering clutch be a major job, ,,Would the two 12 volt battery system be made by international...Hasnt been started for many years ,would this be a concern for any water that would of been in the radiator with regards to the engine.....(dozer has been in a shed),,,finally he wants $2000 Australian ,,which seems pretty fair to me..... thanks for any replys and maybe someone can add if there are common problems with this model dozer i should look for...

I would guess that the cylinder head might need a valve job after sitting for years, hard to say what other damage may have occurred while sitting idle, especially if the coolant wasn't up to snuff. The steering clutch shouldn't be too bad labor wise but parts may be hard to source for the old girl.

I remember them as 12 volt. Two batteries hooked in parallel. 24 volt may be possible on some models. The ones used in the woods here occasionally broke final drive housings when severely abused. Lot of broken ones went to China here when scrap was high. The engine starts on gas and then is switched to diesel when warmed up. You switch it back to gas on shutdown. If proper startup and shutdown was followed they were a good engine. A lot of heads got cracked by improper shut down procedures.

Yeah, all the old TD's that started on gas, if you didn't switch back to gas and let them self clean while hot before shutting down, the spark plugs were oil fouled and she no start when cold. Flashback, lol.

We had both a TD9 and a TD14. I sure wish this forum would have been around 25 yrs ago. Would have saved us at least 4 heads. The steering clutch is kind of a job, but not impossible. My dad tore both of our tractors down to the frame and tracks. The hardest part was the bolts rust into the top cover, and there are LOTS of them. Fuel tank, hydraulic tank, operator's station all have to come off. I'd guess your winch would have to as well.

shimmy beat me to it lots of bolt removal to get at the clutches. might as well check the bearings in the finals if you are down that far. Not a bad job t least there is room to work in there. I helped do the clutches and brakes on a td6 and boy was it tight. P arts are usually available , I found some new and found an old guy who had several and lots of parts he saved me a lot of money. TD 14 is gone now, replaced by a T6 Steve
