Is C.A.R.B. going away?

J Olender ยท 2010-09-23 19:04

I heard a rummer that the California Air Resource Board my get voted out of existence in November. Does anyone have more info on this? If this is true, we all should make sure to vote in this election. The CARB is going to put me and a lot of other smaller dirt work guys out of business here real soon.

They (C.A.R.B.) should be strung up for the misery and money they have cost taxpayers and business owners. I hope business owners in Commiefornia get together and sue at the least and hope at best these charlatans get to serve in the crossbar hotel. I too would like to know what exactly is going on related to this. Many of my friends in the off-road motor-sports world were greatly affected by these clowns.

They are backing off some, I gambled and bought an 01' tier 1 scraper recently, we will see.

They may back off some, but I am afraid there are too many liberals in CA for them to go away. Our best hope for now is a governor with a pro business stance who can appoint some new board members. I know we are not supposed to be political here, but we will be in for 4 more years of the same old thing from them if Jerry Brown gets elected.

Not at all likely. The AGC made them do some backpedaling -- see CARB Remaking Diesel Exhaust Rules Based on Corrected Fleet Inventory -- but don't be surprised if their revisions to the off-road diesel rule are just as tough/expensive to meet as the old rule. Talking to AGC's environmental lawyer last week, I learned that CARB has a couple of things up its sleeve. A new study on the health affects of fine particulate matter in the state, and on-road regulations that aren't doing as much as they'd like to see (CARB may decide to keep the pressure on off-road equipment so that it contributes to overall air quality enough to compensate for lagging on-road cleanup). Meg Whitman may be small CA contractors' only hope . . . L

CARB has not helped my business none too much. it's said that if the engine MFG's can pass the cal. standards it's good to go worldwide :usa

Actually the standards engine manufacturers have to meet -- those that apply to new engines -- are the same in all states, including CA. CARB's turning up the heat by regulating California's in-use diesels -- those already working out in the field. L
