Hello, Do you guys think that it is good to have a variety of different brands of equipment?? Do you think it is good to have for ex. all 627 scrapers or to have 621's and 627's?? Is it good to have 621's, and 637's, or 627's and 631's?? Is it better to have 10 740's or 12 735's. Is it better to have 2 345's loading ADT's or to have a 385?? I hope I explained this well. Thanks Nolan
Depends on how you look at it I guess? It makes it easier to stock parts on equipment when you go with one size. However you never know what size you typicaly will need.
Maybe no so much the same model but maybe the brand. A recent presentation at our Civil Contractors Federation Conference highlighted the improved buying power of medium to large businesses with all their eggs in one basket so to speak.
Nolan -- welcome to the forums! I think it depends on the situation... if you're buying equipment because you need certain machines for a certain project (or bid), it doesn't seem to make sense [to me] to buy all the same machine if combining sizes fits better. It's an argument that's best answered by a good dealer salesman who can take into account the specifics of the situation -- will a 740 have too much ground pressure; will the 385C be be transportable to the job site; are the ground conditions good enough for a 621G; will there be pushdozers available for the scrapers; will the machines will on two different jobsites in the same time period (to name a few).
