I do rail road work and my 310's don't have enough swing power for changing rail road ties. I was told that other brand backhoes are able the replace them using the swing. Is there anyway to boost the swing power? Thanks
i have yet to use a backhoe that had alot of swing power. i had to rent a cat the other day a new shiny 420f it felt the same as my 310sj. even the komatsu i rent from a local guy down the road doesn't feel any better
The older case's like a 580k w/ the foot swing pedals seem to have some balls. Another option is to check and possibly adjust your relief pressures on the swing circuit. Have you tried a NH machine by chance, they seem to have amost destructive power in their hoe. - Note - swinging is very hard on the boom. They are designed for pulling, not swinging. If your machine is under any type of warranty, that action may void it.
The swing power is actually determined by the separation distance of the swing cylinders, since most manufacturers use similar diameter cylinders and approximately the same pressures. The highest swing power is actually found on the case machines as their cylinders are about 1" further apart. Doesn't seem like much, but makes a big difference on a dead stall swing. Might want to see if you can position yourself to pull instead of swinging. You can influence the 'useable' pressure on E-Series Cats by slightly activating another function at the same time. That works great when lifting. - Don't know if that still works on the F's. For those who like to clear trench spoil by swinging, load the bucket first and use the mass to carry through when sweeping. M
