Jcb 1CX Peugeot engine cranks, fires, but won’t run

Hi, this is my first post here, looking for advice on a JCB 1CX with Peugeot XUD engine that my friend has bought recently. The problem is the engine will crank and begin to fire but will not run, I've been through all the usual checks, heater plugs ok, fuel system is ok, fuel reaching injectors, swapped injectors for a known good set, air intake clear, timing checked etc. It cranks, and tries half heartedly to fire but will not run. Tried hot air in the air intake, double checked the fuel system is free from air, and checked again that fuel is reaching the injectors. The engine is an unknown quantity, as the machine was bought having supposedly had a good second hand one fitted. The rest of the machine is in a generally poor state with all interlocks and start inhibit switches bypassed (somebody has run a wire direct from the ignition switch to the starter, and same with the fuel pump solenoid.) so I can say that none of the usual faulty relays, seat switches etc apply to this one. Could a hydraulic fault be holding the engine back? No pressure appears to be building in the loader or dipper, and the joysticks are free. But maybe a fault with the auxiliary hydraulics for the front bucket, which appear to have some electrical control? Is there a way to release the hydraulic pressure so the pump is free regardless of the state of the hydraulic system? Also, if anyone has a manual it would be very helpful. Thanks.

CHECK the pump to engine timing.!!! They are KNOWN to jump.. Isnt the UDX the 1 that has the BELT.?? UR gonna need a degree in mechanical engineering to do it tho.. IF u have a "parasitic load" from the hydos, the engine will crank slow & kill the batteries in very short order.. THATS just one way to check..
