I'm looking at an older JCB 520 4x4 loader and can't seem to determine what make engine is in it, anyone know? Anything special to look out for on these machines? This one has super high hours so I would expect to have the engine overhauled. What kind of cost would I be into?
This thread needs to be moved to the telehandler section, but to answer your question, the older 520's had Perkins engines in them. As far as what to look for, check out the 4 wheel steering linkage, boom pivot pins, boom slide wear, transmission performance (should have a 4 spd torque converter). Your engine question is very open ended and would really depend on the exact model of the engine and the extent to which you had to repair it.
