jcb 814 super engine removal

diesel1234 ยท 2014-01-04 02:40

The 814 needs an engine rebuild, is i best to removal the engine bellhousing and pump in one lump or just the engine and leave the bellhousing and pump in the machine? the engine will only start on easy start when cold, ok when hot, runs very nice when running and uses no oil, may be able to get away with glazebusting the bores and new pistons or a new set of rings. Regards Andrew

Yair . . . diesel1234 . Dunno mate. You have a little digger that needs a sniff to start from cold, runs nice when you have it running, doesn't use any oil and you reckon it needs a rebuild? What's the problem, it don't sound like it's broke, why try and fix it? Cheers.

These engines should start without heat, as i have 1 running a generator and 1 in a combine, if it needs easy start something is wrong, want to be able to go straight to it and it start, been on easy start before i bought it, herd excessive use can damage or crack rings. 11,000 hrs on the clock Regards Andrew

Who told you it should start without heat? If it doesn't smoke, doesn't use oil, there's nowt wrong with the rings or bores. Is it noisy? is there smoke when running? Start simple, air filter, heater plugs (is it a 1000=series engine?) Might even be slightly out on pump timing. Doesn't sound like an engine-out, though.
