The machine serial number is vin# SLP JS 1034E0703825 Model 2005 JCB JS 160NC Isuzu 123hp 4 cylinder engine. I take it the NC is for narrow undercarriage? It has 2200 hours one owner with light use, except counterweight !!!!!! Very tight with auxil hydraulics, and ESCO quick coupler. Will be used just for dirt work. The owner bought the machine new and the two prblems has been the fuel shutoff, which has been changed over to manual shutoff, which is fine with me.Works good no complaint there. Also the other issue was temperture sensor have been replace. Said it showed hot ,but when let to idle would cool down in like less then 5 minutes.Just got started on checking the machine and see that the rubber hose over top of the radiator going to the hydraulic cooler needed clamps tighten. Was seeping oil down along the oil cooler. My thought is where the heating is the problem not the sensor. In the process of cleaning now. I'm impressed of the size of the machine for a 160 size machine, compared too other brands the stick and the boom is the long stick machine.Looks more compareable to a 200 machine in some of the other brand machine? Been a long time since i had an excavator, last one was 150 Burcyus Erie(English built) and a 225 Cat.This machine looks large as far as the stick and boom goes, but the 225 Cat(53000lb) had a big weight advantage. Would like hear some post on the mantiance and so fore. With just 2200 i pretty sure the last owner hasn't done the hydraulics or the final drive changes ,only engine.I'm going to do all them along with the filters. It does show the wrench on the monitor ,but no codes that we have seen.Owner said it needed the oil in the engine changed and to to hit the reset, will that do away with the wrench??????? Seems to be a nice clean machine, time will tell.Hoping for miner issues???? Will have low hourly year use. Will try to load a couple picture.Let's hear from you JCB guys!!!! Will it be hate or love it thing?????
make sure you get a safety pin for the hitch not a bad machine to be honest
I have the safety pin,but have got to get the rust cleaned off it since the other owner wasn't using it.I will be using it,for sure!!!! Do you have anymore info. Can you tell me if the cab has any air filters and where they might be.Air conditioner seems weak and not much air coming out of the vents.Maybe plugged filter, but don't have manual to know where to look. Find the compressor, but couldn't see where to but guages on the compressor to check and see if the freon is low or not? What color do you call the yellow on the machine? One place calling it gold?Dealer only place to get paint to macth?Want to redo the couterweight.Rest of the machine is nice.
The AC connections are in the compartment behind operator cab. One is at/near the filter/dryer, the other is a PITA. In same compartment, hidden along with other hoses/wiring closer to the center of the machine on the one I worked on. JCB could have do a way better job of placing that AC connection.
Willie do you mean in the cab behind the seat under the plastic cover or outside the cab behind it under tin covers where it enters the cab? You said center of machine which we have all the belly pans off so you said center of machine along frame where the hose come from the back of the machine from the compressor to the cab. Is there a site glass on the reciever/dryer? Where is the evaporator located.Condensor is by the battery on the right side of the machine by radiator and hydraulic oil cooler. Thanks for any help you can give.Owner is suppose to send me operator manual in mail if that will help?
JCB are sold the worldover.I am a great fan of JCBs, Follow the simple maintenance routines and treat her with respect and you will become another convert to the JCB
Well, it's kind of hard to describe with words, pics work better but I don't have any, machine is long since sold. One the JS160 we had, the AC gauge connections were in the compartment "behind" the cab, open the door that has the JS160 sticker behind the cab. As I recall the filter/dryer is in there along with the AC gauge connections. One was easy to connect to, the other was a PITA, have to search for it.
As for the machine as a whole, agree with robin yates uk, machine designed and built well enough. Rented the one we had several times and the customer seemed to like them. A little more size than a 100 machine, not quite as big, but close, to a 200 size machine. My only beef is not so much with JCB, but JCB USA. I think the distribution center is in Savannah GA. Too many times I've had to wait for parts to come (through their stocking/order system) from the UK because it's not at the DC in Savannah. In my mind, if you're going to be the distribution center for North America, you should have a fully stocked warehouse. JMHO.
Willie here is a picture if i can load it.There is a bolt on cover behind the pilot control valve is that where the a/C connectors are? Will do more checking tomorrow. Thanks
Very nice hoe! Would like to have a similar size!
Congrats on buying your JS160 looks great!! I have the same one and love the size. I have a huge thumb and 4 foot finish bucket and the "jcb" quick change from in the cab. and the filter for the AC is in the cab under the plastic and after I cleaned mine it went back to blowing Ice cold air again.
We were previously a JCB dealer and have been a Deere dealer since 1955. Only problem with JCB was parts supply time frame. They are great machines and manufactured well. We actually started to outsource original parts and components that manufacture for JCB as another business. If we can help lower your costs let us know.
Hello to All, Construct'O - its been 8 years since you had your JCB. Hope it behaved well, any feedback on DOs and Do NOTs? I am purchasing 2002 JCB 160 with 3500 hours and hammer in CT. Looks like a solid machine but not familiar with it, where do you buy parts, filters, oil? Also, does anyone know good technicians in CT ? Preferably willing to come out for service and repairs? Thanks again. Happy 2016!
Looks tidy machine you have ,In the UK we call it an XO model depends on the dash if you have the grey banana shape all the way along the right side or you have the AMS model with the black dash box front right .as far as overheat give the radiator and coolers a good washing out and the condenser for your air con at the same time.Have a good look at the wiring on the engine block for the sensors as they sometimes had a habit of rubbing through nr the counterweight .Goods machines but make sure you keep on the service side to prevent problems and remember the fuel pump has a banjo filter hiding in the bolt screwed in on the under side of the pump some also had them in the banjo filter head as well so when you down on power take a look here first on these dont run the engine without thermostat as they will get hot very quickly.Change hyd oil for a good quality 46 grade oil to keep the pumps good and also the obvious filter change every 500 and hyd every 1000 if a lot of tracking do reductions at 500 not going to hurt
Thanks Jeff.
Sorry to inform every one but construct o has now been passed away from a heartattack for a year now I was working for him his daughter that didn't talk to him came in and sold everything very disappointed
