JCB Or Case control for hydraulic thumb(Need help)

Construct'O ยท 2015-01-16 14:05

I have a JCB 160 that we are putting hydraulic thumb on.Have it tacked on,but need to stroke the cylinder before we weld. Can't get the cylinder to move with the axil hydra peddler. You can heard the relief valve noise ,but nothing moves.Pump doesn't stroke up. Everything works except the thumb. It has a lever and valve for a hammer to the right of the cab.Tried moving it ,oil flows out the line, but no pressure. Guestion is does the lever need to be in the middle or what i'm i missing??? Any other switches that need moved for two way oil flow,or is this just set up for a hammer and that is it? My Cat man is on the way to look at the machine ,but hope someone on here can respond. Thanks

Hello Is the machine got bi direct pipe work or has it got just large return and small feed down one side .Also is the machine a r3 / xo or ams spec as you might need to set up hammer in the ecu/computer either on the dash or with a lap top . if you have a valve on the return line like a handle it might pay to follow the pipes back they will return from the cab side across into the return pipe and across into the hyd tank if the valve is tuned it should divert back into the pipe work for bi direct try and find the spool cans for the aux /hammer and see if it is piolted both ways /also the arv might not be adjusted to the correct pressur have you placed a gauge on the hyds to test.

You need to verify that you will have double acting hydraulics. Have you tried switching the lines on the thumb cylinder?

Looks as if the problem is the machine is setup with just the hammer valve. The switch in the cab shows a hammer, but just a one way switch not to two which we need for the thumb.Local dealer is not real helpful of course.Having another dealer that is trying to help ,but quite a ways away. Sounds like need another way, added to run the thumb or other axli attachments, which i was hoping to do.Machine has the Brit fitting ,so that is an issue for local testing and hose fitting. The machine does have the smaller pressure line on the right side and the bigger return line on the left side.Have pressure to the hammer valve and so fore by feel. Will try to attach a few pictures. For now just took the skid loader over to the machine run the thumb up and down to see if everything was okay before we welded it on the machine.Just need to get it welded so can get it out of welders shop for now. Any ideas as to how i can use aftermarket valve and tie into hammer liness.I don't need the hammer valve for what i want to do with the machine. Thanks for the reply

Hi We used to put rotation and hammer circuits on machines with out using genuine kits on machines. Opitions you have is as you already have a divert ie hammer circuit and if you get that to work you could put what we call in uk as c top 3 hydraulic diverter bi directional valve in electric operated via a micro switch's either on a pedal or on the servo controler lever ie buttons on the left stick. You would need to do a bit of electrical work as in 3 relays with two diodes to stop back feed and your best bet would be to run two new hose down boom and dipper 1/2" or 3/4" . Or other option is that you still have the same wiring arrangement but the use a diverter valve with a releif valve so as to protect the circuit which basically when operated bleeds some of the flow from pump 1 into the aux circuit using the c top 3 arrangement and this way it is a complete stand alone circuit. If you need more help just shout. jeff
