Hi all, This is on my 323D, PIN 1T0323DKAB0200274. It is new-to-me and I'm going through fixing all of the things that need attention before putting it to work. I think I'm down to the side (front sliding) windows that immediately fall down between the cage and lower window and get wedged in place, rattling like crazy. There is no weatherstripping/felt etc so can completely understand why the rattle, but I cannot figure out what is actually supposed to keep the window resting on top of the aluminum track. There is nothing to hold it there (it isn't like a rib sitting inside of of U or something if that makes any sense to keep it from sliding to the side). The shiny aluminum portion in the first picture probably explains it best, and you can see there is just an aluminum "strip" on the bottom of the top window that sets on that shiny aluminum ledge. I'm sure I am missing something but cannot seem to find a parts breakdown on shop.deere.com for this either. Any help greatly appreciated, or any tips on how to make something work with regular ole' weatherstripping/felt from the hardware store even. I considered just machining some delrin lower guide blocks and self-tapping them either through the fixed aluminum channel that they rest on (I have ~5mm worth of flange to fasten into) but am sure there are easier ways to go about it. Thanks again.
On mine, for a temporary fix, I was able to fit large long zip ties, with the end cut off. Then I ordered some vehicle door trim and fitted that to the bottom and top of the windows. Maybe one day, I will take out both window frames and try and find the right tracking for it but for now, they open and close but you do need two hands to slide them.
Can you explain the zip tie portion? What did it do? Thank you, Nick
Instead of seals or weatherstripping, I used the nylon zip ties and was able to push them into the bottom track. It took up slack, from the windows vibrating and slid pretty easily. Might try and put them back in, if I cannot find the right weatherstripping. They slid and worked much better on the nylon, then the automotive door edging I put on.
Update - it appears that the slider windows have a "H" profile extrusion, where the top potion is where the window sits inside, and the bottom portion has window felt that slides/stabilizes on the window "track" rib. My windows were slid open/closed so many times it wore through the center so I have a I lol. I ordered some window adhesive, H extrusion and channel this morning. Will report back with part numbers and how it went, as well as if it was a viable solution. Does not sound from the dealership like this is a part you can purchase separately, only the full window assy.
Window rehab is complete. I don't have any pictures of everything installed, but looks exactly that of original. If anyone else has this problem, this is what I did: I machined some H-extrusion to match the edge length of nylon edge trim to serve as a liner. Sandblasted, epoxy primed, and spray bombed satin black. I used 3M 590 windshield adhesive to bond the liner to the inside of the extrusion in 5-6 places, and the extrusion to the side windows. I peeled the old stuff and threw some new felt weatherstripping on as well. I am very happy with the results and seem to be tighter than the side windows on my t66. This all resulted from 15 years of side windows sliding back and forth which literally wore through the aluminum extrusion so had nothing to keep the bottom part of the window in place, and unfortunately no way to "fix" this from the parts counter without purchasing complete replacements for more than I wanted to spend. The joys of buying a used machine
