HEF I need yalls help! ive got this 70's JD350 dozer. I can't figure out the deal with the shaft seals for the injection pump. How are you supposed to get the pump past the first seal facing the pump side? I tried it once and tore the seal. I tried shrinking it down with a heat gun to get it closer to the shaft so it doesn't catch the inside of the pump. If you have any suggestions please do tell lol.
U lube the helloutta it..AND THE BRASS TUBE.. Clean engine oil works good.. BUT.. if the pilot tube (brass) has any grooves in it, the seal will grab the groove and flip it.. Stanadyne makes/sells a seal pliers tool that (pinches) goes around the seal.. they’re helpful but not foolproof..
When I install the pump it goes through the brass tube but when it gets past that it catches on something in the back of the bore on a freshly overhauled pump.
U have to engage the tang on the drive shaft to the space inside the pump.. it sounds like your off a bit.. you HAVE TO hit it exact.. if u had timed the pump before taking it off, u shouldn’t be having this problem.. Is your throttle tied back.??
There is a tool to help insert the umbrella seal. Looks like 2 half sections of tubing on the tips of a large hair pin.
