JD 450c lc miss tracking slow track

steve lester ยท 2014-04-23 19:21

i have a john deere 450c lc, one of the tracks are a lot slower then the other one, if you swing left or right just a little it travels fine in both directions, same thing in high. also noticed the swing is slow in ether left or right swing. all other functions seem fine.

For the travel concern I would check the rotary manifold/swivel, those symptoms are a good sign it needs to be rebuilt, as for rotation you should check relief pressures.

If its like a cat it will have a straight travel valve that puts both tracks onto one pump when you use another function. in just travel operation each track has its own pump . I think you're going to find low pump output on one pump.

how do you check something like that? it weird i was working it today and sometimes the swing is slow as heck and sometimes it seems fine. there is no lack in power. why will it track fine when you move the swing a little bit? i was reading somewhere that it could be the counter weight removal sensor? never had it off so i know nothing about that.

What side is the slow side? The left?

  5. #5Deeretracks2014-04-25 01:25

Deere doesn't have a straight travel valve like a Cat. Sounds like a control pressure sensor may be failing.

I would lean toward a pressure sensor problem as well, on pump #2, left travel and swing functions are both on that pump. Are there any codes? if there was a ! point would come on the gauge panel when the machine is running. the codes are displayed in the right rear door by the air cleaner. a quick way to test the pressure sensors is to switch the harnesses from one sensor to the other as they are pretty close together. if the sensor is bad the faults will transfer to the other pump and affect the right travel and bucket control.

Deer does not use a travel straight valve. They use what is called the flow combiner valve. When you move both levers full stroke in either direction, it should stroke the pumps to full flow. One pump for each track. If while traveling you activate a front function, you have divided the pump flow from the front function and travel. The flow combiner valve then shifts one track to both tracks and the remaining pump will supply it`s output to travel

The codes on the display by the air cleaner are ECU codes only so that probably won't help. You can read the Control pressure and delivery pressure on the monitor in the cab in service mode. I can't remember off hand which number is which in the display. I would track straight and check all 4 readings on them monitor if 1 control pressure doesn't match the other or if 1 delivery pressure doesn't match the other I would plumb in a gauge to verify either a real hyd issue or a bad sensor.

yes it the left side, again, when you use the left or right swing they travel together and even goes into 2nd gear travel. swing left and right is randomly slow in both directions, sometimes its fine and then again its slow.

i can check the codes on monday. where are the pressure sensors at? i can do that on monday as well. this is a new used 2year old to us so i don't know very much about it, sorry if i seem dumb.

Not to Familiar with the pump displacement control on this machine but the intermittent loss of adequate fluid flow seems to limited to fluid flow on certain functions from a common pump but can be masked by activity a function from same pump ? I'm sure someone on here knows pressure sensing system on this machine to help you out I'm very interested in cause and good luck steve

what happened to everyone!!!!! its been raining here for the last 3 days so i haven't been able to get to the machine. still needing help on solving problem. were can i get service book so i can locate pressure sensor? is it online somewhere?

  13. #13ANDREW C2014-04-29 19:17

The are on the pumps Steve. Should be the left pump when you are looking at it. You can buy books at http://www.johndeeretechinfo.com/ or search ebay. You will need an operation and test manual not the repair manual.

  14. #14Deeretracks2014-04-29 19:19

You can download The O&T tech manual TM1924 for $227 at http://www.johndeeretechinfo.com/ or search for a used one online somewhere. I would walk you through checking pressures using the monitor but it's been a while since I've done it and don't have a book available. I do know you hold down the "set" button and turn the key on after the bulb check is over you can let go. Now start the machine. Using the "display select" button scroll thru the items. If you are in service mode you will see more options than the normal hrs, trip 1, & trip 2. I can't remember which ones they are but you will be able to read control pressures and Frt & Rr delivery pressures from here. All pressures are in Kpa. Sorry I can't be more help. Andrew beat me to it..............

  15. #15ANDREW C2014-04-29 23:10

Press set then the top button to scroll through. P1 should be 10 P2 11

  16. #16ANDREW C2014-04-29 23:12

Compare the two, p1 is the one you should be worried about. Its in Mpa and 12 is control pressure p1, 13 control pressure p2

  17. #17Mobiltech2014-04-30 17:50

From what I understand of what you said that is the same function that the Cat straight travel valve performs. I'd start looking there.

  18. #18ANDREW C2014-04-30 19:08

I don't think its a flow combiner issue usually they make it propel extremely slow during functioning while propelling or a miss track while using a function. If your swing is slow on its own and miss tracks to the left when straight ahead with no functions activated then its something on the pump. P1 to be exact as it is the common denominator. Its where Id start at least. Not saying there could be a problem with it but if your working propel on its own or swing on its own and its slow I wouldn't start with the flow combiner. Heres how the travel flow combiner works: When dig functions are actuated at the same time as propel, the propel flow combiner valve is opened by pilot oil pressure from the propel flow combiner valve pilot valve. Supply oil from hydraulic pump 1 now flows to both left and right propel. Hydraulic pump 2 supply oil flows to the dig functions. Supply oil from hydraulic pump 1 to both left and right propel prevents mistracking

Don't forget these models have angle sensors on them. That is where I would look.

  20. #20Mobiltech2014-04-30 23:31

Ok sounds good. What I meant to say is that if the machine tracks straight when the flow combiner ( AKA straight travel valve on a Cat) is activated then you would think that the travel motor and swivel valve are not the problem and the pump for left track and swing motor is the place to start.

  21. #21ANDREW C2014-04-30 23:48

Exactly, probably something on the pump. It would be nice to know if there are any stored codes for pressure sensors or angle sensors or pump pilot pressure sensors. Could be a lot of small things or a pump issue but some more diagnostic needs to be done at the machine before you can say much more

  22. #22steve lester2014-05-01 18:31

please, i don't mean to be stupid but the pumps were talking about, are they the ones right behind the boom? its been raining here since sunday so i haven''t been out by the machine to do anything. when i was out there last week checking the engine oil i saw wires coming out of the two big pumps behind the boom, is that the pressure sensors?

  23. #23Deeretracks2014-05-01 19:46

No, those are the swing gearboxes. Your pumps are mounted to the back of the engine.

  24. #24Hydrastar2018-07-20 05:23

I am having this same issue with slow left travel, slow swing left and right, and a bucket function is slow after a pump replacement. cleaned tank along with lines to case drain. Steve did you ever get this machine diagnosed?
