JD 690d-lc hydralic pump failure

Brian D · 2019-11-17 19:40

Bought the 690dlc with unknown hydralic pump issue. Long story short got it home machine wouldn't move. After some troubleshooting determined that hydraulic pump must have failed found brass in the oil. Hydraulic oil seems to be clean in resivor and in the pilot system. Getting ready to send pump off to be rebuilt. Looking for advice on effective methods or procedure to clean system. Not an everyday use machine maybe 100 or so hours a year. Also what oil should be used. Book calls for hydraulic oil, I've also seen where guys say to use engine oil.

Hitachi hydraulic oil. If you don’t use it they won’t warranty the pump if it fails. It’s not cheap. We just replaced same thing on a JD200CLC. Same machine basically. We had to purchase a rebuilt pump. Didn’t have time to send out out and have it rebuilt.

    For your reference, dear.

We're talking a D model 690 here, last of the Deere built hoes, it will have Linde pumps on it not Hitachi. I believe the spec was 10w30 engine oil, to get some life out of the pumps? They weren't known to be very reliable. All the other D models were Hitachi built and bullet proof (except for the engines...)

Best to strip all items clean and reseal it. Pipes valves cylinders and the tank. Everything uses the same hydraulic oil in the tank, so most items mentioned is contaminated with metal.

690D used 10W-30 or 15W-40 depending on your temps. A direct replacement for the engine oil is Deere's new oil Hydrau. Looks like a full system clean up is in order.
