Hitachi zx225uslc throttle not working

Martin Canuel ยท 2019-11-17 20:13

I have a 2006 zx 225 uslc zeroswing No communication with drzx pda with machine. Machine won't respond to throttle dial. Machine won't turn off with key. Must use manual shut off I've replaced the throttle motor with a new one and didn't fix it, replaced key/ignition cylinder. On the 3 pins ec sensor while running at idle I read 4.5v 1.7v and ground. Regardless of throttle position those readings don't change. Also tested the 4 pins on the motor side and pin 1 is (. 2 to 1.4) fluctuating pin 2 is (. 2v) pin 3 is (. 5v) 4 is ground. Any insight would be amazing I'm pulling my hair out. I've done a relearn probably 8 times doesn't do a thing. Motor doesn't even make sound now when starting. Randomly will work fine one day then next no response. Ive tested the across the ec sensor coils as per the tsb about these ec motors as well and 1-2 reads 1.07 and the 2-3 reads 1.18 Bad ecm?? We had a thumb and catwalks welded onto the machine recently, battery disconnect switch was off the whole time. This is also a intermittent issue now was sometimes it will work on startup then no throttle response.

Welcome to HEF Martin ! F4, F8, F10 and F18 fuses good? If those "F" numbers are incorrect they would be the Main Controller and Engine controller fuses. If the fuses are good then the most likely issue is short in one of the 5V reference wires to one of the sensors. Those controllers are designed to shut down the throttle if a short is detected in 5V reference circuit.

Refer to troubleshooting below. Also check the Control Dial Value. Sometime machine can work===>the faulty may be loosen of any electricity connector??!! Hope that MC (Main Controller) is not faulty!!

  3. #3LACHAU2019-11-18 09:44

You can also check machine status and fault codes without Dr.ZX PDA as follow.

  4. #4Martin Canuel2019-11-18 13:48

Thank you!!, Glad to get some input finally! Iam concearned as well about my drzx not communicating, i can do a data download on the one plug but on the mcx i get no communication.. to test that 4 pin plug what should i be reading on them> I did check the fuses behind the seat yes, reading wise to test those circuits what should i be reading at each one of those fuses?

  5. #5Martin Canuel2019-11-18 13:52

Thank you so much for this infomation, ill go through this today and report back with some findings! Also in regards to "Also check the Control Dial Value" iam assuming you are referring to the actual dial below the screen for the throttle, and your meaning talking a resistance or voltage measurement on those wires that go to the dial?

  6. #6Martin Canuel2019-11-18 16:15

In regards to looking at values on the screen NO LUCK I turn off machine hold set button, turn on, let go of set button press display and after pressing the 4th time for display (engine actual speed value) i get 6 dashes (- - - - - ) and from there the screen is frozen doesnt matter what i press i cant see anything else other than those dashes if i turn off and on again with key then it restarts.

Ive gone though these steps and results as follows Disconnect sw panel and resistance between panel side connector terminals 2 and 4 is supposed to be 5+-0.5 my readings were 160k ohm, 157k ohm and 131k ohms did 3 readings to be sure spec is supposed to be 5+-.5 k ohm so book says if not within spec change dial control.. also the voltage on terminal 3 does not change when plugged in regardless of dial position my reading was .8v and did not change. book says faulty engine dial...... however the chart you sent says a faulty dial would not effect the key off issue iam having that is where im a tad confused.. NOW the interesting part i did the ec sensor testing flow chart as well resistance between terminals 1 and 3 on ec sensor side is 2.07 checked my old servo motor it was 2.3, spec is 2.0+- 0.4 spec says all is good there Next, ec sensor voltage on harness eng connectors between 1 and 3 with key on i get 5.18v spec is 5+-0.5v so good there Now iam unable to watch the voltage change due to the fact i dont have this st7129 harness, is this harness anything fancy or is it just a way to tap into these wires, why cant i probe them while its connected and watch the readings?? from there it says to check harness between terminal 18 and ec sensor for short or breakage... being unable to test with that harness i did the other steps, i checked voltage between ec sensor harness and end connector on terminal 1 and read 5.18v spec is 5+-0.5v, bok says broken harness between mc and ec sensor terminal 3 During this whole process while i was in the cab i reconnected the dial harness and i heard the servo motor move, i played with the dial and could hear it moving back and forth. i fired up machine and idled up and down with dial.. after about 15 seconds no response from dial. Leaning towards dial control panel? not being able to access the onboard diag via the set button is kind of worrying me as well maybe i was doing something wrong??

  8. #8LACHAU2019-11-18 21:42

As I know that you have Dr.ZX tool. Please use service mode for setting monitor display as follow.

  9. #9Martin Canuel2019-11-18 21:47

Unfortunately No communication with drzx pda with machine, i get a no cumminication error check power or communication cable error message.

  10. #10LACHAU2019-11-18 21:53

Attached file is Electric Circuit diagram.

  11. #11Martin Canuel2019-11-18 21:56

So judging from what ive discovered so far, am i safe to call the throttle dial ? or leaning towards the ecm??

  12. #12LACHAU2019-11-18 22:01

Yes, it's just a way to tap into these wires.

  13. #13LACHAU2019-11-18 22:03

By the way. It's very simple to check stepping motor by using ST 7125. It's same follow video.

  14. #14Martin Canuel2019-11-18 22:05

Wow you are so open and helpful this is amazing!!!! ok will test that tomorrow and post back with results. Thank you Thank you

  15. #15LACHAU2019-11-18 22:13

My dear, Throttle Dial 's just a 5 k.Ohm "POTENTIOMETER" .....very, very cheap.

  16. #16Martin Canuel2019-11-18 22:16

So first do the test on the servo motor by tapping in to those plugs, if not then calling the dial?? Doesnt the no communication with the dr zx worry you? also the fact that the dial is only responsible for one of the 3 problems in that flow chart and isnt related to the other 2 leads me to believe there is another issue no?

  17. #17LACHAU2019-11-18 22:21

as i already told you: Hope that MC (Main Controller) is not faulty!! I don't know whether you can repair MC or not!!

  18. #18Martin Canuel2019-11-18 22:25

Worst case new mc is 500 ish online just money they make it every day. Just dont like throwing parts and not getting results

  19. #19mg23612019-11-19 04:41

You can backprobe the connector to check voltages. Unfortunately nothing published that I know of that will have that information. However is there not a 6 pin plug to plug into? I think that is the one you want. Lachau, can you confirm?

  20. #20LACHAU2019-11-19 07:44

ZX225USLC has 2 controller: MC = Main Controller and the other is ICX controller = Information Controller. Don't care about ICX controller. It's just stored the information that send as a report for management!!!

  21. #21LACHAU2019-11-19 07:48

Do you have the Dr.ZX manual already my friends??

  22. #22Martin Canuel2019-11-19 11:41

Yes apologies it is a 6 pin plug for the dr.zx the icx and mcx are both 6 pins

  23. #23Martin Canuel2019-11-19 11:42

Yes i have a dr.zx manual i got from the internet.

  24. #24Martin Canuel2019-11-19 13:40

Fired up this morning throttle working fine. Hate this intermittent issue while throttle is actually working for the moment i Still did readings on the ec sensor circuit. read 2.19v between #2and#3 at idle and read 1.91v at full throttle which doesnt make sense to me as slow idle should be 2.5-2.7 and full 3.3 to 3.7 The diagram for testing the ec motor circuit is confusing me the am i checking /probing these circuits to test for a volage or resistance?? and which terminals of the 4 on the ec motor circuit do i test as the diagram for the st7125 just shows them all on one.. Dr.zx still wont communicate i am unable to read any vales as well on the screen while pressing the set button... The throttle dial according to the flow diagram would only be responsible for engine speed it says its not related to the key off problem iam having..

  25. #25mg23612019-11-19 18:25

    Voltage.

  26. #26Volvomad2019-11-19 20:07

Is the MC screwed together ? If so it might be worth having a look inside for damp and/or corrosion .

  27. #27Martin Canuel2019-11-19 21:10

Throttle was working today with the dial however still cant shut off with key, cannot read any values on the screen by pressing the set button, and drzw wont communicate. good idea about taking the ecm apart, thats probably all thats left. Think i may just bite the bullet and get a ecm and the throttle dial panel.

  28. #28LACHAU2019-11-19 23:40

"Throttle was working today with the dial" is good information. "however still cant shut off with key" don't worry about this. You can try to adjust the linkage between EC motor and Control cable.

  29. #29Martin Canuel2019-11-20 01:35

Iam assuming your thinking that the servo motor is just not pushing or pulling the cable all of the way to shut the motor off then?? Would not being able to see any of the settings on the screen/cluster by pressing display be related? As well as the no communication issue with the dr.zx...

  30. #30LACHAU2019-11-20 02:34

Yes, I've. OK. You should just adjust the cable, no need to perform "ENGINE LEARNING".

  31. #31LACHAU2019-11-20 02:54

Regarding to Dr.ZX didn't recognized your machine. Please take a photo of Palm PDA let us refer to. It look like follow image??

  32. #32Martin Canuel2019-11-20 12:51

Alright SUCCESS IN CONNECTING THE DR.ZX Codes read 6,13,15,16,18 Faulty ec sensor faulty pump 2 pump control pressure sensor Faulty boom raise pilot p. sensor Faulty roll-in pilot pressure sensor Faulty travel pilot pressure sensor Now going forward are all of these codes related to one harness possible? Also do these codes go away when fixed or do you clear them with the dr.zx? I was able to read the ec sensor voltage with the dr.zx idle-2.83v full throttle - 3.08v Dial volatge idle - 0.56 dial voltage full throttle - 4.33

  33. #33excavator2019-11-20 15:52

Not sure about the bottom 3 sensors but I have had it on a -5 machine where a faulty pump sensor will shut down the main controller, not allowing computer access or throttle control. When the machine starts giving you problems again, turn off the key, unplug pump 2 sensor and see what happens. I've also had an intermittent problem like this and it was the harness plug going into the sensor. Deere does sell individual harness plugs for this.

  34. #34mg23612019-11-21 04:41

As I stated in post #2, any short in the 5 V reference circuit of any sensor will shut down the controller as well as have an effect on the other sensors. So expanding on what excavator said keep unplugging sensors one at a time (with a key cycle) to see if the problem goes away. Keep in mind that this checks sensors and not the wiring. For what it is worth I found the voltage specs for the 4 pin diagnostic connector and their respective voltages so you have it for future reference. Pin 1 - 0 volts (black/blue wire) Pin 2 - 0 volts (this is actually frame ground)(black wire) Pin 3 - .097 - .098 volts (black/green wire) Pin 4 - 5.25 - 5.30 volts (red/blue wire) Also, (you may have mentioned and I missed it) when your issue is happening is the light on the pump and valve controller blinking, lit solid, or does it go out?

  35. #35Martin Canuel2019-11-21 17:41

Did some unplugging today AT this time dr.zx connected and throttle working with dial, BUT cant shut off with key still i had the drzx monitoring all 4 sensors unplugged the 4 sensors that had codes one at a time and watched the values disappear however no time did i regain the ability to shut off with key as i tried every time when i unplugged each sensor after all was done i re-scanned codes and no codes were present "problem not found in diagnostic system" was the message i got when reading diagnostic codes. engine dial and ec sensor vales were reading fine on the dr zx as well still cant turn off with key, i have to use manual shut off.

  36. #36Martin Canuel2019-11-21 17:42

In regards to this valve controller what and where is this??

  37. #37excavator2019-11-22 00:05

Try doing a throttle re-learn now.

  38. #38mg23612019-11-22 04:48

As far as not being able to shutting it off with the key, I suspect you have a bad V2 alternator relay shut down diode. The V2 diode is located behind the seat close to the fuse panel (under the plastic covers) and can be identified by the red/white and red/black wires going to it. Try swapping it with another diode (should be more than one there) to see if that fixes your shut down issue. Behind the seat under the plastic.

  39. #39Martin Canuel2019-11-22 22:33

I have swapped all the diodes back and forth with no results, trying each time to turn off with key...still cant turn off with key.

  40. #40Martin Canuel2019-11-22 22:34

Did a relearn did not solve the issue with not being able to turn off with key.Throttle works however

  41. #41excavator2019-11-22 23:28

I've had them with a bad diode in the alternator not allowing the battery relay to turn off but they were all dash 5 or earlier. I also had a ZX230 that would not shut off with the key, it had a small wiring fire down behind the batteries that melted all the wires in the harness together. The amazing thing was it did not blow any fuses.

  42. #42Martin Canuel2019-11-22 23:46

Interesting.. so this diode in the alternator i assume is not replaceable/serviceable.. has to be replaced with the alternator? So check harness to the alternator then?

  43. #43Martin Canuel2019-11-23 00:52

Ive read that welding on the machine can cause alternator diodes to get fried. That being said we just welded catwalks on the machine and a thumb prior to that, we used the night switch as our battery disconnect. Maybe the 2 events are related..

  44. #44LACHAU2019-11-23 01:24

There are 2 simple ways (very...very...very easy to solve the problem).

  45. #45Volvomad2019-11-24 17:06

Just wondering when you go to turn off does the engine speed drop any ?

  46. #46Martin Canuel2019-11-24 17:42

I was finally able to get someone to shut of the machine while i watched the servo motor. When shutting down the engine you can hear rpm drop/ sputter a bit to a lower rpm. Watching the actual motor it barely actuates the throttle when shutting it down. Iam going to adjust the throttle cable some more manually and see if that solves my issue.

  47. #47Martin Canuel2019-11-24 17:59

OK adjusted the throttle cable while machine was running and took the idle right down to almost a sputter, then ithgtened it up and used key to turn off, barely made the rpm drop when i hit the key off.. engine relearn ? also when i had the servo motor disconnected initially there was about a inch of play in the throttle cable,. when i attach the servo to the arm do i pull out all the slack and tighten it>?

  48. #48Volvomad2019-11-24 18:43

If there is an inch of freeplay in the system (not moving injection pump lever) I would think that is your problem

  49. #49Martin Canuel2019-12-27 02:40

Well after all of that, replace servo motor, pulling interior dash apart to test wiring, testing all the sensors, took your advice and replaced the throttle cable and wouldnt you know it a new throttle cable from servo to inj. pump fixed all my issues!!! I do thank all of you for the trouble shooting help i truly appreciate it and it actually helped me learn alot about my machine.

  50. #50Martin Canuel2020-01-03 19:32

Well guys its doing the exact same thing again 1- wont shut off with key 2- dr.zx wont communicate 3- no servo sound or motion with key on 4- must use manual throttle kill to turn off machine 5- servo motor, throttle cable have been replaced.

  51. #51Martin Canuel2020-01-03 23:15

None whatsoever, when i turn on the key generally you can her the servo motor do a adjustment of some sort, when i have this issue it makes no sound with key on

  52. #52Martin Canuel2020-01-03 23:16

We replaced the throttle cable thought it solved the issue, was temporary. now back to square one doing the same thing again

  53. #53Couger Chris2020-01-25 17:22

Hi, we are going through the same problems on a 225. Did you win?

  54. #54Martin Canuel2020-02-24 23:10

Not so much to say a win.. i did some more diagnosing, everyone is saying to check the 5v reference circuit . i did find one pigtail of a sensor on the pilot valve that was broken, replaced it and i havent had the issue again (fingers crossed). So it hasnt acted up since but now i have a issue with my thumb only working one way.

  55. #55Alim_ZX4602024-02-22 07:06

Hello, sorry I peak french, dr zx wont communicate. try this : Disconnect and connect battery ground. And connect dr zx.
